Kita bisa buat sendiri
Bunyi bunyian itu
Kita karang sama sama
Sekarang giliranmu…
Eight months after its release, the song Zuzuzaza from Sal Priadi’s second album MARKERS AND SUCH PENS FLASHDISKS has returned in a fresh and new form.
On December 4, 2024, Sal Priadi released Zuzuzaza (Edit Pack), a mini album featuring five remix versions of the song. He invited five producers/musicians to reinterpret the song, whose spirit encourages creative freedom and open responses.
“The song is really about creating something, about creating art. Over time, it can be interpreted in many ways, including, for example, becoming the name of the tour I did recently. Actually, the idea to invite people to reinterpret it has been around for a while,” said Sal Priadi.
Through his creative journey, he crossed paths with five producers/musicians: Densky, Munir, Muztang, Namoy Budaya, and Tomy Herseta. Each one brought a unique flavor.
Sal Priadi’s vast network in the music scene connects him with various possibilities, including collaborations with these artists.
Densky, a sought-after beatmaker/producer in the local hip-hop scene, has worked behind the scenes with Sal for some time.
The same applies to Tomy Herseta, the experimental musician who, in another artistic capacity, is one of Sal Priadi’s trusted collaborators.
Muztang, with a drum n’ bass background and active in Westwew Music, brought a distinct touch, expanding the interpretations of Zuzuzaza.
Munir, a DJ/producer who often explores disco music, also contributed to reshaping the song.
Finally, reggae DJ/producer Namoy Budaya completed the remix puzzle.
“These five are people whose work I really admire. When I offered this project to them, I was confident that their interpretations would bring a completely different color to Zuzuzaza. It’s amazing to hear how a song that was once mine can take on a new aura when handled by someone else,” Sal continued.
This project is both a tribute and a celebration of the thriving electronic music scene in Indonesia, a genre that has always had a rich and enduring presence.
“Generally, the beatmaker/DJ/producer scene is close to me. So, working with the names featured on this mini album isn’t something unusual. It makes sense from my perspective that the music could expand in this direction,” he added.
To start, Zuzuzaza (Edit Pack) will be released on various digital music platforms. There’s also a possibility it will be released physically, following the physical releases of Sal Priadi’s previous two albums.
“So it can be played on vinyl in clubs later,” Sal Priadi concluded. (*)
