Jung Jinyoung (B1A4) and Dahyun (TWICE) arrived in Indonesia to attend the premiere of their latest film, You Are the Apple of My Eye. The event was held at Epicentrum XXI, South Jakarta, on Monday, February 10, 2025, where they promoted the film and met their fans in person.
They were accompanied by the producer and director of You Are the Apple of My Eye, Song Dae Chan and Young Myoung Cho. The world premiere of the film was specially held in Indonesia after its screening at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2024. “I am very grateful to come to Indonesia for my first film. This is a film made with talented actors and a passionate, enthusiastic crew, so I hope you enjoy it,” said Song Dae Chan.
The Korean version of You Are the Apple of My Eye is a remake of the Taiwanese film of the same name, which set several box office records in 2011. This romantic comedy explores themes of first love, friendship, and self-discovery.
Jinyoung and Dahyun Return to Indonesia
Both Jinyoung and Dahyun had visited Indonesia before. Jinyoung first came 12 years ago and was finally able to return. He expressed his fondness for Indonesia, saying, “I like the air here, and I am welcomed by the fans,” he said.
Two years ago, Dahyun visited Indonesia as part of her K-pop group TWICE, performing at their Ready to Be concert at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on December 23, 2023. However, this was her first time visiting as an actress. “After arriving in Indonesia, I immediately ate nasi goreng and mie goreng,” shared Dahyun.
Jinyoung and Dahyun Greet Fans Up Close
After the press conference, which lasted nearly an hour, Jinyoung and Dahyun prepared to walk down the red carpet to greet fans. Some lucky fans were able to stand very close to the carpet, while others watched from behind the glass outside the event.
Fans brought various memorabilia for Jinyoung and Dahyun to sign. Both stars walked slowly, signing items and even taking selfies with several fans’ phones. Shortly after, guests and fans were invited into the cinema studio to watch You Are the Apple of My Eye for the first time. Before the film began, Jinyoung, Dahyun, and director Song Dae Chan greeted the audience once again.
Audience Impressions of You Are the Apple of My Eye
In addition to media and fans, several Indonesian celebrities, YouTubers, and influencers were invited to attend. One of them was YouTuber Nessie Judge, who has over 11 million subscribers. She shared her thoughts after watching the film: “It’s really good, a very touching and funny movie, it truly reminds me of high school puppy love,” Nessie told Tempo. “There’s one scene where Dahyun is crying, and it’s really well done, amazing.”
You Are the Apple of My Eye will be released simultaneously in South Korea and Indonesia on Friday, February 21, 2025. It will then be released in Thailand on March 6, 2025, the Philippines on March 12, 2025, followed by Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong in the first half of 2025.
VISITING PRIVATE TELEVISION
In addition to attending the gala premiere, both Jinyoung and Dahyun visited a private TV station for an interview during the Indonesia Idol talent search event. Both stars impressed the audience and shared their experiences as international artists, as well as their thoughts on their latest film, You Are the Apple of My Eye.
Similarities with Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?
Unexpectedly, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (AADC), the legendary Indonesian film, became one of the reasons the production team decided to hold the world premiere in Indonesia. Producer Song Dae Chan mentioned that their film’s setting is in the same year as AADC, which was released in 2002.
“I know there are many great producers and directors in Indonesia. I know there’s a film from 2002, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta, which is very popular among young people. Our film’s setting is also in that year,” Song Dae Chan said at Epicentrum XXI, South Jakarta.
Moreover, Song Dae Chan also noted the large number of film fans in Indonesia. Based on these factors, the team decided to hold the world premiere in Indonesia.
“And I think because there are so many film fans in Indonesia, we decided to hold the world premiere here,” he added.
Not only the producer, but director Cho Young Myoung is also familiar with several Indonesian filmmakers. He mentioned names such as Joko Anwar and Hanung Bramantyo.
“Indonesia has many great directors, like Joko Anwar, Hanung Bramantyo. Even though the countries are different, emotionally, Indonesia and South Korea are very similar. I believe that Indonesian audiences will emotionally connect with the film,” he said.
You Are the Apple of My Eye will be released in cinemas on February 21, 2025.
