Reza Rahadian stars in the latest Netflix film The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, which will premiere on February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.
In this film, Reza plays Reuben, the son of television conglomerate WinTV, who is set to inherit his father’s wealth. He frequently switches girlfriends until he meets and interacts with Kiara, one of his TV employees.
“I’ve been waiting for the romcom genre (romantic comedy) to color Indonesian cinema for quite some time. This romcom by Robert Ronny also adds to that color. This genre, along with the film’s full representation, uniqueness, and depth of value in every part of the story, is what makes it so appealing,” said Reza Rahadian during a press conference at XXI Metropole, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (Feb 13).
“The idea for this film has been around since 2007. So the romcom references are from that era. The romcom films starring Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks—those are films I love,” added The Most Beautiful Girl in the World director Robert Ronny.
One of the key scenes in the film is when Kiara, played by Sheila Dara, and Reuben, played by Reza Rahadian, get stranded on an uninhabited island.
Reza Rahadian shared that they filmed this scene in the Thousand Islands Regency. The experience made him realize there are beautiful places to vacation that are close to Jakarta.
“We filmed on one of the islands in the Thousand Islands, which made both of us realize that you don’t need to go far. There are beautiful places around Jakarta that are great for a getaway and easy to reach,” said Reza Rahadian in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
He expressed his happiness about shooting on an island, especially since it was just him and Sheila there. “It was fun to shoot there, just the two of us,” said Reza Rahadian.
During the shoot on the island, Reza and Sheila discovered many interesting things that offered new lessons. One of the skills they learned was survival techniques.
“For example, how to break a coconut without using any tools or sharp objects. Building a tent from twigs and coconut leaves—those are skills,” explained Reza Rahadian.
“It was a lot of fun (catching fish) because it’s hard,” he added.
In The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Kiara and Reuben encounter a monitor lizard that surprises them. This is something Reza Rahadian and Sheila Dara actually experienced while shooting.
“We weren’t scared, just surprised. The animal was really there,” said Reza Rahadian.
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Friday, February 14, 2025. The film, directed by Robert Ronny, also stars Ira Wibowo, Kevin Julio, Jihane Almira, Dea Panendra, Bucek, and Indra Birowo.
The film tells the story of Reuben (Reza Rahadian), the heir to a media empire, who must find the most beautiful girl in the world to inherit his wealth. Fate brings him to a remote island with Kiara (Sheila Dara), an ambitious producer.
They must work together to survive. Their differing personalities and initial goals create conflict, but the adventure on the island changes how they view each other. Kiara, who initially doubts Reuben, begins to see his positive side.
