Jakarta – Viu, the leading pan-regional OTT streaming service owned by PCCW, has announced plans to launch a series of new Viu Originals this year, including My Youth, a highly anticipated series starring Song Joong-ki.
My Youth features Song Joong-ki alongside Chun Woo-hee and is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2025. The series tells the story of Sun Woo-hae (Song Joong-ki), a former child actor who is now a novelist and the owner of a flower shop. His life takes a drastic turn when he reconnects with Seong Je-yeon (Chun Woo-hee), a manager at an entertainment company. In their teenage years, they once helped each other through difficult times. Now, fate brings them together again, reopening old wounds and emotions they have long suppressed.
This marks Song Joong-ki’s first major drama since the success of Reborn Rich, a Viu Original that became the most-watched show on the Viu platform just 10 days after its premiere in 2022.
Expanding the Viu Originals Lineup
In addition to My Youth, Viu also announced three other new Viu Originals: My Girlfriend is the Man!, a fresh and entertaining Korean romantic comedy; Maya, a thrilling murder mystery from Thailand; and Diverse Macau, a travel program from Hong Kong that is both entertaining and informative.
In the second quarter of this year, Viu will also present the highly anticipated Chinese series The Immortal Ascension (凡人修仙傳), starring Yang Yang (楊洋) and Jin Chen (金晨), as well as local dramas from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
First Investment Collaboration with Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA)
Emphasizing its commitment to both global and local entertainment, Viu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KOCCA in August 2024 to jointly invest in premium Korean content that harmoniously blends with Southeast Asian elements and has global appeal.
Official proposals will open in the second quarter of 2025 for both fiction and non-fiction works. Selected projects will premiere exclusively on Viu, offering culturally rich narratives for global audiences.
As part of its commitment to local relevance, Viu continues to enrich its content offerings in each country. This includes not only producing local Viu Originals but also acquiring local titles from various partners, providing a wide variety of relevant content for viewers across the region.
