A Lineup of Indonesian Films to Enrich Marche du Film Cannes 2025

Indonesia will once again actively participate in the world’s largest film event, the Cannes Film Festival 2025. This year, the Ministry of Culture will present the Indonesian Pavilion at Marche du Film, the largest film market in the world, which is part of the Cannes Festival. The presence of the Indonesian Pavilion is expected to expand global networks and open opportunities for strategic collaborations to advance the Indonesian film industry.

Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, expressed appreciation for the Indonesian delegates attending the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 13–24, 2025. “I extend my appreciation to all parties, especially filmmakers, directors, producers, actors, writers, animators, technicians, and other creative workers who wholeheartedly work to build cultural bridges between Indonesia and the world through cinema,” he said during a press conference in South Jakarta on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Here are some of the Indonesian films that will be showcased at Marche du Film Cannes 2025:

  1. Ikatan Darah Ikatan Darah is a film produced by Uwais Pictures and directed by Sidharta Tata. It falls within the action genre, with a strong focus on pencak silat (Indonesian martial arts).

  2. Timur In addition to Ikatan Darah, Uwais Pictures will also bring Timur to the Marche du Film. Directed by Iko Uwais, this film marks his directorial debut and is inspired by the 1996 Mapendumayang hostage rescue operation in Indonesia.

  3. Jumbo After its great success in the national market, Jumbo will also be participating in Marche du Film Cannes 2025. This film from Visinema Studios hopes to find collaboration partners for international distribution and marketing.

  4. Pangku Pangku, the directorial debut of Reza Rahadian, will also join Marche du Film Cannes 2025. The film gained access to Marche du Film after winning the Hong Kong Asia Film (HAF) Goes to Cannes Program. Pangku will be presented to seek potential collaborators and sales agents.

  5. Monster Pabrik Rambut The latest film from Palari Films, Monster Pabrik Rambut, will also be present at Cannes 2025. Internationally titled Sleep No More, this co-production between Indonesia and other countries will be represented by ShowBox as their sales agent. ShowBox is the same sales agent that handled the South Korean blockbuster horror film Exhuma.

  6. The Mourning Journey Christine Hakim returns to Cannes in her debut as a producer for The Mourning Journey. Directed by Garin Nugroho and starring Reza Rahadian, this film will be looking for collaboration partners at Marche du Film.

  7. Rose Pandanwangi Producer and director Razka Robby Ertanto has been selected for the Producers Network program at Marche du Film. Robby will present his latest project, a film about legendary Indonesian opera singer Rose Pandanwangi, who was also the wife of painter S. Sudjojono. Robby has previously produced and directed films such as Midnight in Bali (2025), Yohanna (2024), and Ave Maryam (2018).

  8. Renoir Producer Yulia Evina Bhara, who was one of five Indonesian producers in last year’s Producers Network, returns this year with a new role as a jury member. She was selected to join the jury for the Semaine de La Critique (Critics Week) at Cannes Film Festival 2025. Additionally, Renoir, a co-production film between Japan, Indonesia, France, the Philippines, and Singapore, has been selected for this year’s main competition at Cannes.

  9. Three Comic IPs from JAFF Market Three Indonesian intellectual property (IP) comics will also be present at Marche du Film, brought by JAFF Market. These are Bandits of Batavia (Beyondtopia by Bryan Valenza), Locust (Studio Kosmik), and Jitu (Caravan Studio). These comics, which are set to be adapted into feature films, will participate in the Spotlight Asia program at Marche du Film, after being selected at the JAFF Market 2024.
