Jakarta, Sunday, June 8, 2025 – On the third day of Anime Festival Asia Indonesia 2025 (AFAID25) at the Jakarta Convention Center, fans of Studio Ghibli are in for a very special performance: “The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony”. This collaborative concert features a lineup of original vocalists from Ghibli’s beloved films, accompanied by Japan’s TOKYO ASIA Orchestra, under the direction of Concert Master Takeshi Hashima.
Yoshikazu Mera, a world-renowned countertenor, opens the concert with orchestral arrangements infused with his stunning vocals reminiscent of Princess Mononoke. Since beginning his career in the 1990s, Mera has been known for his deep classical interpretations. Tonight, he brings Ghibli themes to life with his enchanting voice and impeccable vocal technique.
Next on stage is Sumi Shimamoto, legendary voice actress and singer, performing music from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and Princess Mononoke. With her experience as a voice and singing talent in six Ghibli films, Shimamoto delivers a deeply emotional performance that connects the nostalgia of classic animation with the warmth of live performance.
Following her is Azumi Inoue, the iconic voice behind theme songs from Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro. She will captivate fans with her soft, charming vocal timbre. Joining her is her daughter, Yuyu, who made her singing debut in 2012 on NHK. Together, they represent a generational legacy in the legendary Ghibli vocal family.
All of the original singers are accompanied by the TOKYO ASIA Orchestra, a top-tier ensemble conducted by Takeshi Hashima, the official Concert Master for the Ghibli music concert series. With grand orchestral arrangements and impeccable precision, the orchestra will perform the timeless scores of Joe Hisaishi and other Ghibli composers in a breathtaking symphonic format.
