Magical Night at KOSTCON 2025: K-Drama OST Singers Leave Fans Spellbound

Jakarta, August 2, 2025 — Romance and emotion filled the air at Indonesia Arena, Senayan, on Saturday night. Thousands of fans were swept up in the enchanting atmosphere of KOSTCON 2025, one of the main highlights of Indonesia’s largest pop culture festival.

This star-studded concert featured a lineup of top South Korean vocalists known for their iconic contributions to K-drama original soundtracks (OSTs). Each artist not only performed their hit songs but also shared personal stories behind the emotional creation process of these beloved tracks.

 A Star-Studded, Emotion-Filled Lineup

One of the most anticipated moments came from Lee Mu Jin and Soyou, two talented vocalists who rose to fame through their work on the Business Proposal soundtrack. Lee Mu Jin opened his set with “Sweet,” a track that perfectly captures a love story between two strangers who slowly fall for each other.“It’s about two people who were strangers at first, but they begin to support each other and eventually fall in love,” Lee Mu Jin said during a casual talk session before his performance.

As the first notes played, the crowd erupted with cheers and sang along enthusiastically.

Soyou, with her soft and distinct voice, performed “Love, Maybe,” also from Business Proposal. She expressed her excitement about performing in front of an Indonesian audience.“I’m really happy to be part of KOSTCON. The fans here are so warm and welcoming,” said the former SISTAR member.

Next up was Lyn, who captivated the crowd with her legendary ballad “My Destiny” from You Who Came From the Stars. Her high notes and emotional delivery transported fans back to the story of alien Do Min Joon and the charming Cheon Song Yi.

The atmosphere then turned more melancholic as Chen of EXO took the stage, delivering soul-stirring renditions of “Best Luck” and “Shall We?”—OSTs from It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Descendants of the Sun. With flawless vocal control, he made the audience relive the deeply emotional storylines of both dramas.

Another emotional highlight came from Heize, who performed “Round and Round” from Goblin. Her performance evoked strong feelings of nostalgia and longing tied to the tragic love story of Ji Eun Tak and Kim Shin.

Meanwhile, Kim Bum Soo, known as the “OST King,” mesmerized the audience with his timeless ballad “I Miss You” from Stairway to Heaven. His powerful, emotion-filled vocals silenced the arena—creating a rare and unforgettable moment of shared stillness.

To close the night, K.Will took over with his emotionally rich songs “Love is Punishment” and “Beautiful Moment.” The crowd responded with loud cheers and heartfelt sing-alongs, proving that classic K-drama songs still hold a special place in fans’ hearts.

Behind the Songs: Press Conference Highlights

Before the concert, the artists attended a press conference, sharing heartfelt and sometimes humorous stories about their journey as OST performers.

As the first artist to arrive, Lee Mu Jin shyly greeted the excited fans!

Widely known for his song “Sweet,” Lee Mu Jin immediately set the mood with his distinctive voice and emotional performance. During a brief chat on stage, he shared the deeper meaning behind the beloved soundtrack.“Sweet is about a man and woman who start off as strangers, slowly grow closer, and eventually express their love for one another,” he said with a warm smile, which was met with loud cheers from the crowd.

In contrast, Soyou appeared relaxed and playful—even singing a snippet of “Shake It” and “Touch My Body” to the delight of her fans, who responded with wild excitement!

Meanwhile, Heize, who is often associated with emotional ballads, surprised everyone with her bright and bubbly personality!

Also not to be missed, Chen of EXO, the voice behind many hit OSTs, was ready to light up the stage for his Indonesian fans.

When K.Will entered the press conference area, fans immediately broke into a spontaneous chorus of his legendary song “Please Don’t.” The moment was electric.

Lyn, known for her powerful track “My Destiny,” looked absolutely stunning in a long elegant gown and greeted everyone with incredible warmth.

And even though he’s the most senior among the lineup, Kim Bum Soo fully embraced the new generation’s style—striking various heart poses like a true Gen Z idol!

All seven artists also shared personal stories behind the OSTs that made them famous. Many even promised to perform those very songs during KOSTCON Jakarta 2025—making fans even more eager for the concert to begin.

Soyou: Always Reads the Script First

Soyou revealed that she always asks to read the drama script before agreeing to perform an OST.“I want to understand the emotion behind the story first. The song needs to feel genuine, so I study the characters and plot thoroughly,” she explained.

Heize: Writes Songs Based on Specific Scenes

Heize shared a fun behind-the-scenes story about her song “You Are the One” from Tastefully Yours. She was told the song would be used for a kiss scene between the main characters.“I imagined what it would feel like if I were in that moment with my boyfriend. That helped me write a cuter, more aegyo-filled melody,” she said, laughing.

Kim Bum Soo: Targeting Gen Z via YouTube

Veteran singer Kim Bum Soo, often dubbed the “King of OSTs,” shared how he’s adapting to today’s digital culture by focusing on Gen Z fans.“In Korea, I’m working hard on building my YouTube channel. Even after all these years, I want to stay connected and communicate like Gen Z. So don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share!” he joked.
