Get ready, fans of Japanese psychological horror — a new film titled Exit 8 is coming soon. Directed by Genki Kawamura, this live-action movie is adapted from a popular horror game released in 2023 and is scheduled to premiere in Indonesia on September 10, 2025.
Adapted from an Indie Game
Exit 8 originally began as an indie game created by Kotake Create, which gained attention for its unique looping concept. In the game, players are challenged to identify anomalies in an underground subway corridor in order to reach Exit door number 8. Just one small mistake can send the player back to the beginning, delivering a thrilling psychological horror experience.
Starting as a viral game among gamers and streamers, its rising popularity paved the way for a big-screen adaptation. The movie version preserves the original game’s eerie atmosphere but presents it with more dramatic storytelling, chilling scenes, and realistic horror visuals, offering audiences a distinct and immersive experience.
Exit 8 Movie Synopsis
Exit 8 follows a man known as The Lost Man (played by Kazunari Ninomiya) who finds himself trapped in an endless underground corridor leading to a train station. His sole mission: to find Exit door number 8. But the journey is far from easy. The corridor seems infinite and is filled with strange anomalies that must be avoided.
To escape, he must follow one critical rule:
Do not ignore anomalies.
If you see something strange, turn back immediately.
If not, keep walking.
Even the smallest mistake can send The Lost Man back to the starting point — or to door number 0, forcing him into an endless loop of terror.
While navigating the underground tunnel, he repeatedly encounters another figure known as The Walking Man. This mysterious figure remains silent and unresponsive when passed.
The film delivers a richer horror experience, including terrifying figures, gory scenes, the appearance of a mysterious child, and a deeper exploration of the protagonist’s psychological state — all of which heighten the tension.
This is not just your typical jumpscare horror. The film uses a psychological approach that draws viewers into the character’s unsettling reality, making them feel the terror firsthand.
Cast and Anticipation
Well-known actor Kazunari Ninomiya takes on the lead role of the man trapped in the corridor. He is joined by Yamato Kawachi as The Walking Man. The supporting cast includes Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase, and Nana Komatsu, although details about their roles remain under wraps.
The appearance of Nana Komatsu is highly anticipated, as many speculate her role might be crucial to the story. We’ll have to wait and see when Exit 8 premieres on September 10, 2025.
