Strong chemistry in real life doesn’t always guarantee ease in front of the camera. This is exactly what celebrity couple Fadly Faisal and Maudy Effrosina experienced when they starred together in the series OTW Halal.
Despite being a couple off-screen, Fadly admitted he felt nervous and awkward while filming intimate scenes with Maudy. Instead of feeling natural, some moments actually felt “strange” to him.
“Some scenes felt more awkward—just weird,” Fadly shared during an interview in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
He acknowledged that the scenes themselves were quite normal. However, performing them in front of cameras and a full production crew made the experience different. “Even though, honestly, it’s nothing unusual,” he added.
Meanwhile, Maudy Effrosina had a different perspective. For her, building chemistry with Fadly wasn’t a challenge at all. Their real-life relationship made everything feel more comfortable.
“Maybe the chemistry comes naturally because we’re already comfortable with each other,” she said.
A Challenging Role for Fadly
In the series, Fadly plays Rafi, a calm and religious young man raised in a pesantren (Islamic boarding school). The role proved to be quite challenging, as it contrasts with his real-life personality.
“It’s harder to maintain the character of a calm, religious student because it’s very different from who I am,” Fadly explained.
On the other hand, Maudy portrays Renata, also known as Elsi—a nightlife worker navigating a complicated life. Her encounter with Rafi becomes the starting point of a unique and emotional story, bringing together two completely different worlds.
