Ahmad Dhani & Dave Koz Deliver the Best Surprise of Java Jazz 2026 Day 3

Music festivals thrive on unpredictability. You memorize the schedule and map out your stage routes, but the best moments are usually the ones nobody warned you about. On Day 3 of the myBCA International Java Jazz Festival 2026, the organizers decided to rely heavily on pure shock value. If you spent your Sunday evening inside the Teh Botol Sosro Hall at NICE PIK 2, you witnessed some of the most bizarre and brilliant crossovers in the festival’s 21-year history.

It started with the highly anticipated “Karya Tohpati” showcase. The legendary Indonesian guitarist could have easily played a solo instrumental set and walked away to a standing ovation. Instead, he turned his slot into a generational bridge. Tohpati brought out a roster of today’s most prominent young vocalists—Meiska, Prinsa Mandagie, Mario G Klau, and Fabio Asher—to breathe new life into his catalog. Hearing these fresh voices backed by Tohpati’s masterful arrangements gave the crowd exactly what they wanted: familiar melodies delivered with a completely new edge.

But the absolute wildest moment of Sunday night came a few hours later during Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns.

Koz is a Java Jazz regular. Fans expect world-class saxophone runs and a highly polished, smooth performance, which he absolutely delivered. Right as the set was winding down, however, the mood completely shifted. Without much buildup, Ahmad Dhani casually walked onto the stage. Yes, the frontman of Dewa 19.

Seeing a giant of Indonesian rock crash a smooth jazz set was jarring enough. Watching him grab the microphone to sing “Tak Ada yang Sebanding Denganmu” alongside Dave Koz was something else entirely. The crowd in the Teh Botol Sosro Hall completely lost their minds. It was a weird, unscripted, and glorious collision of genres.

Moments like the Dhani-Koz crossover are exactly why people buy three-day festival passes. You never really know who is going to walk out from behind the curtain.
