Fans of Korean dramas have a new title to look forward to this summer. Netflix has officially announced that its upcoming supernatural period drama The East Palace will premiere globally on July 17, accompanied by the release of a striking new poster that offers a glimpse into its mysterious world.
Set against the backdrop of a royal palace haunted by dark secrets, The East Palace blends historical drama, supernatural mystery, and suspense into one captivating story. The series explores a kingdom threatened by a powerful curse, where the only hope for salvation may lie beyond the boundaries of the human world.
Directed by Choi Jung-kyu, known for acclaimed dramas such as The Devil Judge and Children of Nobody, the series is written by Kwon Sora and Seo Jea-won, the creative minds behind the richly imagined worlds of Bulgasal: Immortal Souls and The Guest. Their latest collaboration promises an immersive and original narrative filled with intrigue and supernatural elements.
Leading the cast is Nam Joo-hyuk, who takes on the role of Gu-cheon, a man gifted with the extraordinary ability to cross between the mortal realm and the Gwi Realm, a supernatural dimension inhabited by restless spirits. His mission is to eliminate spirits that venture too close to the human world, making him a crucial figure in the kingdom’s fight against unseen threats.
Joining him is Roh Yoon-seo as Saeng-gang, a palace maid who possesses a unique connection to the spirit world. Her sensitivity to supernatural forces draws her into a dangerous journey alongside Gu-cheon as they investigate the mysteries lurking within the palace walls.
Adding further depth to the story is Cho Seung-woo, who portrays the King. Faced with growing dangers and unexplained events, he summons Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang to the East Palace, setting in motion a chain of events that could determine the fate of the entire kingdom.
The newly released poster hints at the eerie and otherworldly atmosphere that defines the series. As Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang move between the palace corridors and the shadowy Gwi Realm, they uncover long-buried secrets and confront the lingering consequences of the past. Their uneasy partnership, complicated by hidden truths on both sides, fuels a story filled with escalating tension, chilling encounters, and gripping mysteries.
With its blend of supernatural horror, historical intrigue, and a star-studded cast, The East Palace is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated Korean releases of the year.
The East Palace premieres worldwide on July 17, exclusively on Netflix.
