Barunson E&A, the South Korean entertainment company behind Academy Award-winning Parasite, joins the film as international sales agent

Jakarta, September 1, 2026 — The mystery surrounding the Pengabdi Setan universe is about to go deeper.

Rapi Films and Come and See Pictures, in collaboration with Sky Media and Legacy Pictures, have officially announced that Pengabdi Setan 3: Origin, the latest chapter in Joko Anwar’s acclaimed horror universe, has entered production and is slated for a theatrical release in 2027.

Adding an international dimension to the project, Barunson E&A, the South Korean entertainment company behind the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, has joined Pengabdi Setan 3: Origin as its international sales agent.

Written and directed by Joko Anwar, the third installment will take audiences back to the world first introduced in Pengabdi Setan (2017) and expanded in Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion (2022). After years of unanswered questions, cryptic clues, and lingering mysteries, the new film promises to move closer to the source of it all.

“Since the first Pengabdi Setan, this story was never designed to end with a single film. There were many things that were deliberately left untold, and many questions left for audiences to explore. Released in 2017, Pengabdi Setan became a major phenomenon in Indonesia, attracting more than 4.2 million moviegoers. Five years later, Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion expanded the mythology and introduced a much wider world of secrets, while raising even more questions about the mysterious sect and the figures operating behind the events of the franchise—particularly Darminah and Batara.

Now, Pengabdi Setan 3: Origin is set to reveal parts of that world that have never been seen before.

The third film will expand the Pengabdi Setan universe across a broader time, space, and narrative scale, bringing audiences closer than ever to the origins of the mystery connecting all three films.

“Pengabdi Setan has grown far beyond what we initially imagined.
