JAKARTA, September 26, 2026 — Imajinari has officially unveiled the teaser poster for PULANG KAMPUNG, a new Batak musical film written and directed by Bene Dion Rajagukguk. The production house also confirmed that the film will hit Indonesian cinemas on November 26, 2026.
The teaser poster offers the first glimpse into the world of PULANG KAMPUNG, with the breathtaking landscape of Lake Toba taking center stage. Framed by traditional Batak ornaments, the visual immediately highlights the cultural identity that lies at the heart of the film.
At the center of the poster are the two main characters, Uli, played by Vanessa Simorangkir, and Daniel, played by Axelo Nababan. Sitting across from each other, their quiet interaction hints at a deeply personal story that will unfold through the film’s musical format.
For Bene Dion Rajagukguk, music is more than just a soundtrack—it is a way for the characters to express emotions that are difficult to put into words.“Music and songs have their own special place in Batak culture. Many people may find it difficult to express themselves directly, but they can be very expressive through songs. Through music and songs, the characters in PULANG KAMPUNG can express feelings that may be difficult for them to say out loud. I want the audience to feel those emotions as well,” said Bene Dion Rajagukguk, the film’s writer and director.
From Indonesian Idol to the Big Screen
PULANG KAMPUNG marks the acting debut of both Axelo Nababan and Vanessa Simorangkir, who are known for their appearances on the 13th season of Indonesian Idol.
Their transition from singing competition contestants to leading actors adds another interesting layer to the film, particularly as the story itself relies heavily on music and emotional performances.
The cast also includes renowned Indonesian singers Judika and Lea Simanjuntak, further strengthening the film’s musical identity.
To create a fresh sound while maintaining its cultural roots, musician Viky Sianipar has rearranged several traditional Batak songs with contemporary touches.
The result is expected to bring Batak music to the big screen in a way that feels both familiar and fresh for audiences.
A Musical Journey Through Batak Culture
Producer Ernest Prakasa said the team was immediately drawn to Bene Dion Rajagukguk’s idea of creating a Batak musical film.“From the beginning, we were attracted to Bene’s idea of making a Batak musical film. Through this teaser poster and the release date announcement, we want to give audiences a small preview of the music, culture, and natural beauty of the Batak homeland that will become the soul of this film,” said Ernest Prakasa.
With Lake Toba serving as one of its key visual backdrops, PULANG KAMPUNG aims to bring the beauty and cultural richness of North Sumatra together with an emotionally driven musical story.
Produced by Ernest Prakasa and Dipa Andika, PULANG KAMPUNG is scheduled to premiere in Indonesian cinemas on November 26, 2026.
