Indonesia Comic Con (ICC) 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran reaffirmed its status as the nation’s premier pop culture gathering. From world-class comic masters to thousands of cosplayers packing the show floor, the community spirit was palpable across every hall. Yet the weekend’s energy surged to an absolute peak around one defining headliner: the highly anticipated appearance of international actor Mackenyu Arata, celebrated globally for his role as Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action One Piece series.
A Unified Gathering for Diverse Fandoms
Long before the main stage reached a fever pitch, the convention halls buzzed with dynamic community interaction:
* A Tribute to Local Illustrators: Tables across the Guest Artist area and Comic Alley remained a prime draw for Marvel, DC, and indie collectors hunting down original artwork from Indonesia’s leading masters.
* Multi-Genre Cosplay Showcases: From intricate superhero armor builds to spirited Straw Hat pirate squads, local creators demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship and fabrication skills throughout the venue.
* High-Stakes Collectibles: The search for convention-exclusive variant covers, designer art toys, and rare scale action figures turned exhibitor booths into lively hubs of trade and discussion.
The Main Event: Welcoming the World’s Favorite Swordsman
The JIExpo exhibition hall erupted into deafening cheers the moment Mackenyu was introduced on the main stage. Thousands of fans surged forward toward the barriers to catch a glimpse of the actor up close.
* Bringing Zoro to Life: Addressing an electric crowd, Mackenyu opened up about his deep connection to the iconic three-sword swordsman. Having grown up reading One Piece, he described his genuine affection for the character and the exhaustive training required to execute grounded, high-impact swordplay choreography on screen.
* A Warm Contrast to the Screen Persona: While Zoro is famous for his stoic, intense demeanor, Mackenyu charmed the audience with frequent smiles, playful banter, and an approachable warmth that prompted waves of excitement through the crowd.
* A Heartfelt Response to Indonesian Fans: Visibly moved by the passionate welcome, Mackenyu expressed profound gratitude for the reception he received in Jakarta, noting how the warmth and energy of the local fandom made him feel right at home.
Mackenyu’s appearance at Indonesia Comic Con 2026 illustrated how effectively the convention bridges grassroots community passion with prominent international stars, underscoring Indonesia’s growing prominence on the global pop culture map.
