JAKARTA — As one of the most highly anticipated film events of the year, the Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) festival has officially returned, running from October 31 to November 7, 2026.
This year’s Jakarta World Cinema presents a rich lineup spanning diverse genres, languages, and cultures from across the globe. Adding to the prestige of JWC 2026, the festival boasts a screening of Fjord, directed by Cristian Mungiu—a widely acclaimed film that recently won the prestigious Palme d’Or.
In addition to screening the film, the festival invited Tudor Vladimir Panduru, the cinematographer of Fjord, to share insights with attendees.
“The film talks about values and different perspectives in the world. So I think it’s important watching this film to answer some questions for your own self, understanding better how to be a better person in these societies that we live in. So, I hope you enjoy the film and thank you again for the festival. Thank you,” Panduru expressed during his warm welcome to the Jakarta World Cinema audience.
Razka Robby Ertanto, Director of Public Affairs for Jakarta World Cinema, highlighted several key developments that set this year’s edition apart, including an in-person Master Class featuring Tudor Panduru. Audience engagement has also reached new heights: while last year drew an impressive 22,000 attendees, this year’s festival has already recorded over 32,000 participants—a figure that continues to grow as events unfold across three major Indonesian cities: Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang.
Jakarta World Cinema remains a beloved fixture for film enthusiasts nationwide. In a closing interview, Razka Robby Ertanto noted that the festival provides audiences in Indonesia with a unique opportunity to experience trending and critically acclaimed global cinema on the big screen.
