From A-Listers to Cinephiles: High Enthusiasm Surrounds the Opening of Jakarta World Cinema 2026

JAKARTA — The buzz surrounding Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) 2026 reached a fever pitch as film enthusiasts rushed to secure tickets during the festival’s high-demand presale, spanning three major Indonesian cities: Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang.

Among the festival’s stacked lineup, Fjord emerged as the most anticipated screening of the event. The excitement wasn’t limited to the general public—prominent Indonesian actors including Morgan Oey, Kiki Narendra, and Faradina Mufti were spotted in attendance, expressing immense enthusiasm for the festival’s return.

All three stars chose the opening screening of Fjord as their top pick to kick off their Jakarta World Cinema experience.

Helmed by acclaimed director Cristian Mungiu, Fjord stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as a conservative Romanian-Norwegian couple. The film delivers a poignant family drama, offering a raw slice-of-life look at a Romanian immigrant family relocating to a remote village along a Norwegian fjord following the tragic loss of Mihai Gheorghiu’s parents.

The story delves beyond internal household friction, capturing adolescent turmoil and the cultural dissonance of adjusting to an entirely new environment.

As the prestigious recipient of the highest honor (Palme d’Or) at the 79th Cannes Film Festival (2026), Fjord kept the entire opening-night audience (October 31) completely spellbound.

The Jakarta World Cinema festival runs in theaters for eight consecutive days from October 31 to November 7, 2026. For fans looking to catch up or revisit their favorite titles, JWC will also offer an online streaming lineup exclusively on the KlikFilm  platform.
