Nine legendary Indonesian guitarists. One monumental stage. A celebration of the country’s rock heritage. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Rajawali Indonesia brings together some of Indonesia’s most influential guitar heroes for 9 Dewa Gitar, a special performance set to open the Guns N’ Roses World Tour Jakarta 2026 at Indonesia Arena on November 21, 2026.
Indonesia’s rock history is about to take center stage in an extraordinary way. On October 16, 2026, concert promoter Rajawali Indonesia announced 9 Dewa Gitar, a groundbreaking musical project uniting nine legendary guitarists whose contributions have helped shape the sound of Indonesian rock across generations.
Bringing together musicians from iconic bands such as Godbless, Edane, Boomerang, GIGI, Slank, Jamrud, and Soneta, the project promises a rare opportunity to witness some of the nation’s most celebrated guitar talents sharing one stage.
More than just an opening act, 9 Dewa Gitar is designed as a tribute to Indonesia’s rich musical heritage — a gathering of artists whose legacies grew alongside the global rock movement that made Guns N’ Roses one of the biggest bands in the world.
Nine Guitar Legends, One Extraordinary Stage
At the heart of 9 Dewa Gitar are nine guitarists representing different eras, musical styles, and influential chapters in Indonesian music history.
The lineup features:
- Ian Antono — Godbless and Gong 2000
- Eet Sjahranie — Edane
- John Paul Ivan — Boomerang
- Dewa Budjana — GIGI
- Totok Tewel — Elpamas
- Edi Kemput — Grass Rock
- Pay Burman — Slank and BIP
- Azis MS — Jamrud
- Rhoma Irama — Soneta
Each musician brings a distinctive identity and musical legacy to the project, reflecting the diversity of Indonesia’s rock and popular music scene.
From the hard-rock riffs associated with Edane and Boomerang to the influential sounds of Godbless, GIGI, Slank, and Jamrud, the collective represents decades of musical evolution.
Rhoma Irama adds another dimension to the gathering. Best known as a pioneering figure in Indonesian dangdut through Soneta, his inclusion broadens the project beyond conventional rock boundaries and highlights the diversity of Indonesia’s guitar-driven musical heritage.
Together, these nine artists form a rare musical constellation — one that brings together different generations, influences, and approaches to the guitar in a single performance.
Legendary Musicians Complete the Lineup
The special performance will be supported by an accomplished group of musicians from different generations of Indonesia’s music scene.
Rere Reza of Grass Rock will take the drummer’s seat, bringing his powerful playing to the rhythm section. Shadu Rasjidi, associated with DeadSquad and Infernal Lamentations, will handle bass, while Rio Ricardo will add melodic depth on keyboards.
The performance will also feature three celebrated vocalists: Roy Jeconiah of Boomerang, Achmad Albar of Godbless, and Krisyanto of Jamrud.
Their presence adds another layer of nostalgia and excitement to the project, connecting the guitarists’ instrumental artistry with some of the most recognizable voices in Indonesian rock.
With this combination of guitar legends, seasoned musicians, and iconic vocalists, 9 Dewa Gitar is shaping up to be a powerful live experience built around the collective energy of Indonesia’s musical greats.
A Special Welcome for Guns N’ Roses
The timing of 9 Dewa Gitar carries a special significance.
The project will make its live debut as the opening performance for Guns N’ Roses’ Jakarta concert at Indonesia Arena on November 21, 2026, as part of the band’s World Tour Jakarta 2026.
For the nine Indonesian guitarists, the appearance represents a symbolic moment: rather than taking the spotlight as the main attraction, these established musicians will come together to welcome one of the world’s most influential rock bands to Jakarta.
There is also a generational connection behind the collaboration. Many of the Indonesian guitarists built their careers during the 1980s and 1990s, an era when Guns N’ Roses helped define the global rock landscape.
The band’s rise coincided with a period of significant growth and evolution in Indonesian rock, making this encounter between local legends and international icons especially meaningful.
The result is more than a meeting between two musical worlds. It is a celebration of the enduring influence of rock music and the artists who carried its spirit across borders and generations.
An Idea Born from a Search for the Perfect Opening Act
According to Anas Alimi, founder of Rajawali Indonesia, the idea for 9 Dewa Gitar emerged while he was selecting and curating Indonesian musicians for the concert’s opening act.
With so many talented artists to consider, he decided to take a different approach: instead of choosing a single performer or band, he envisioned bringing nine legendary guitarists together.
“I came up with 9 Dewa Gitar while I was in the process of selecting and curating Indonesian musicians for the opening act. There were so many options, so I decided to bring together nine legendary guitarists from Indonesia’s music industry,” Anas explained.
He also emphasized that the musicians would be given creative freedom to determine their song combinations.
“I gave them the space to choose their own combination of songs, so that what they perform truly comes from their own rehearsal room,” he added.
This approach allows the project to develop organically through the musicians’ collective creativity rather than relying solely on a predetermined concept.
For audiences, that freedom could make the performance even more compelling, offering a musical collaboration shaped by the artists themselves and the chemistry they develop together.
Guns N’ Roses: A Global Rock Phenomenon
The significance of 9 Dewa Gitar is further amplified by the band it will welcome to Jakarta.
Since emerging from Los Angeles, Guns N’ Roses has established itself as one of the most influential American rock bands of all time. Their 1987 debut album, Appetite for Destruction, became a landmark release in rock history and remains one of the best-selling debut albums in the United States.
The band followed that success with Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, which simultaneously occupied the top two positions on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
According to the supplied event information, Guns N’ Roses’ catalog has sold more than 100 million units worldwide. The band also continues to attract a global audience, with approximately 34 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
In May 2024, Appetite for Destruction was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Following a historic reunion that generated worldwide attention, the band headlined Coachella and sold more than five million tickets during its Not in This Lifetime… tour.
The current lineup comprises Axl Rose on vocals and keyboards, Duff McKagan on bass, Slash on lead guitar, Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese on keyboards, Richard Fortus on rhythm guitar, and Isaac Carpenter on drums.
With such a lasting legacy, Guns N’ Roses provides a fitting backdrop for a project dedicated to celebrating guitar artistry and the enduring power of rock music.
More Than a Concert: A Celebration of Indonesia’s Musical Heritage
At its core, 9 Dewa Gitar represents an opportunity to revisit the stories, sounds, and artistic contributions that have shaped Indonesian music.
By bringing together musicians from different bands and musical traditions, the project creates a space where generations of musical history can meet in real time.
It also highlights the importance of recognizing Indonesia’s own musical icons on a major international concert stage. While Guns N’ Roses brings its global legacy to Jakarta, 9 Dewa Gitar offers a reminder that Indonesia has its own extraordinary roster of artists whose work has influenced audiences for decades.
For Rajawali Indonesia, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to creating memorable live music experiences and showcasing Indonesian talent alongside international acts.
The promoter is known for organizing major music events, including Prambanan Jazz Festival, Jogjarockarta Festival, and concerts featuring internationally renowned performers.
With 9 Dewa Gitar, that commitment takes a particularly ambitious form: uniting nine guitar legends for a performance that celebrates the country’s musical identity while welcoming one of rock’s biggest names.
