Flora Liu from Shanghai Comes to Jakarta for “A Tribute to Teresa Teng” Featuring a 50-Piece Orchestra by Astrid Lea, conducted by RM Condro, with Special Performances by Kris Dayanti and Putri Ayu

Jakarta, October 7, 2026 — The timeless music of one of Asia’s most beloved musical icons will once again come alive in Jakarta through “A Tribute to Teresa Teng,” a special concert featuring acclaimed Shanghai-based singer Flora Liu, with special performances by Indonesian diva Kris Dayanti and singer Putri Ayu.

The concert will take place on October 28, 2026, at The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, a sophisticated venue chosen to create a more intimate, elegant, and immersive concert experience.

Tickets for “A Tribute to Teresa Teng” officially go on sale starting October 7, 2026, through the LOKET.COM website and app.

Celebrating Teresa Teng Through a New Musical Perspective

At the heart of the concert is Flora Liu from Shanghai, who will perform a selection of Teresa Teng’s most beloved songs. Rather than attempting to imitate or replace the legendary singer, Flora Liu will bring her own vocal character and musical interpretation to Teresa Teng’s timeless repertoire.

Her presence also adds an important cross-cultural dimension to the concert.

Teresa Teng’s influence extended far beyond her native Chinese-speaking audiences. Her music crossed borders, languages, and generations, making her one of the most influential figures in Asian popular music. Bringing a singer from Shanghai to Jakarta offers a fresh perspective on that enduring legacy while celebrating the cultural connections that have long existed between Indonesia and the Chinese-speaking world.

The songs will be presented in an entirely new orchestral setting through a 50-piece orchestra by Astrid Lea, conducted by RM Condro. The orchestral arrangements are designed to preserve the emotional essence and recognizable character of Teresa Teng’s music while introducing greater depth, scale, and dramatic expression.

The result is intended to be more than a nostalgic recreation. It is a new interpretation of familiar songs—one that allows audiences to rediscover Teresa Teng’s music through the richness and emotional power of a live orchestra.

Teresa Teng and Her Connection to Indonesia

For Indonesian audiences, Teresa Teng’s legacy carries a particularly interesting cultural connection.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential Mandarin pop singers in Asian music history, Teresa Teng was celebrated for her distinctive voice and her ability to connect emotionally with listeners across countries and generations. She was also known for performing songs in Indonesian, helping introduce elements of Indonesian musical culture to audiences in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

One of the most fascinating examples is “Tian Mi Mi,” one of Teresa Teng’s best-known songs. The melody was adapted from the Indonesian song “Dayung Sampan,” a song associated with the musical traditions of Semarang, Central Java, and popular in Indonesia around the 1950s.

This cultural exchange makes Teresa Teng’s music particularly meaningful for Indonesian audiences. Her songs are not simply part of Asian musical history; they also reflect the way music can travel across borders, be reinterpreted, and create connections between cultures.

Through “A Tribute to Teresa Teng,” audiences will be invited to revisit those memories while experiencing her repertoire in an elegant new concert setting.

Special Performances by Kris Dayanti and Putri Ayu

Adding another layer of Indonesian musical talent to the evening, the concert will feature special performances by Kris Dayanti and Putri Ayu.

For Kris Dayanti, the opportunity to be part of a tribute to Teresa Teng is also an opportunity to celebrate a musical figure whose influence reaches across Asia.“This is something I’m very proud of because I get to learn new things from one of Asia’s Mandarin pop divas, Teresa Teng. Especially knowing that one of her songs was adapted from a song originating in Semarang. That makes me incredibly proud,” said Kris Dayanti during the press conference held at The Music Lounge, Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, on October 7, 2026.

Putri Ayu also has a personal connection with Teresa Teng’s music.

The singer, who has performed Mandarin songs for more than 13 years, remembers Teresa Teng’s repertoire as part of her early journey learning the language.“For the past 13 years, I’ve often performed Mandarin songs. One of the first Mandarin songs I learned when I was starting to study the language was one of Teresa Teng’s songs. Her music is very meaningful to me. So when I was invited to perform at this concert, I immediately said yes,” said Putri Ayu enthusiastically.

Their appearances will add a distinctly Indonesian perspective to the evening, creating a musical dialogue between Teresa Teng’s legacy and the voices of Indonesia’s own celebrated performers.

A 50-Piece Orchestra to Give Teresa Teng’s Music a New Dimension

One of the defining elements of “A Tribute to Teresa Teng” will be the 50-piece orchestra by Astrid Lea, under the direction of conductor RM Condro.

The orchestral format is designed to expand the musical landscape of Teresa Teng’s repertoire. While the arrangements will respect the identity of the original songs, the scale and dynamics of a full orchestra will introduce new textures and emotional dimensions.

Balancing the grandeur of a large orchestra with the intimacy of the vocal performance will be one of the central artistic challenges—and attractions—of the concert.

Astrid Lea sees the project as an opportunity to introduce Teresa Teng’s music to audiences through a different musical experience.“With The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan as such a magnificent venue, the presence of a 50-piece orchestra will give audiences a new experience of listening to Teresa Teng’s songs and revisiting those memories. My parents also loved Teresa Teng’s music, so I’m very happy to be part of this concert,” said Astrid Lea.

The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan: Intimate, Sophisticated and Elegant

The choice of The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan is an important part of the concert concept.

Unlike an arena or stadium show, a ballroom offers a more intimate relationship between performers and audience. That atmosphere is particularly suited to a concert built around vocal quality, orchestral musicianship, and emotional connection.

For “A Tribute to Teresa Teng,” the venue is intended to become part of the experience itself—creating an atmosphere that is intimate, sophisticated, and elegant.

Andrea Kurniawan, CEO of The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan, explained:“We want ‘A Tribute to Teresa Teng’ to be more than just a concert. We want to create an elegant and intimate experience where audiences can truly enjoy the vocals, orchestra, and atmosphere of the performance up close. The Ballroom at Plaza Senayan has a character that we believe is very well suited to this concept. We want the venue itself to become part of the concert experience.”

He added:“Teresa Teng’s music has tremendous musical and emotional value and has the ability to transcend generations and borders. Her songs are not only part of Asian music history; they remain widely recognized and loved by Indonesian audiences today. That is why we want to present a performance that is not simply a nostalgic concert, but a tribute concert with an elegant and sophisticated production.”

According to Andrea, the orchestral format was deliberately chosen to bring a broader, grander, and more emotional interpretation to Teresa Teng’s repertoire.“We hope this concert will offer something new both to longtime Teresa Teng fans and to younger audiences who are discovering her music for the first time.”

Connecting Asia’s Musical Heritage with Indonesia’s Finest Talent

For David Ananda, Managing Director of Color Asia Live, the concert represents an opportunity to connect an important chapter of Asian musical heritage with some of Indonesia’s finest contemporary performers.“A Tribute to Teresa Teng has tremendous musical and cultural value. Teresa Teng had an enormous influence on the history of Asian music. We believe a tribute of this kind deserves to be presented with a high standard of production,” said David Ananda.

He continued:“The presence of Flora Liu from Shanghai as the main performer, together with special performances by Kris Dayanti and Putri Ayu, will bring an interesting combination of colors to the concert. With the 50-piece orchestra by Astrid Lea and RM Condro as conductor, we hope to create an experience that is not only nostalgic, but also fresh and relevant for today’s audience.”
