The relationship between Jakarta and South Korea was further strengthened through the opening of the 2026 Nonsan Strawberry Festival, held at Gandaria City Mall, South Jakarta, on Friday (February 6). This marked the second time the festival has been held in Jakarta and served as a strong symbol of cooperation between the Jakarta Provincial Government and Nonsan City, South Korea.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, who expressed his optimism about the success of this year’s festival. He noted that the event was presented with a more attractive and distinctive concept compared to previous years, drawing strong public interest from Jakarta residents.
“Public enthusiasm is very high. I believe this year’s festival will be even more vibrant, as it has been eagerly anticipated for a long time,” Rano said in his remarks.
The Nonsan Strawberry Festival is an annual event showcasing premium strawberries from Nonsan City. Beyond product exhibitions, the festival also serves as a platform to promote leading agricultural products and to foster knowledge exchange in modern farming practices. These include cold chain storage systems and efforts to improve crop quality.
According to Rano, the festival plays a strategic role not only in strengthening cultural ties but also in facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences. Jakarta can learn from Nonsan’s expertise in modern agriculture and agricultural distribution, which aligns with Jakarta’s efforts to enhance food security and develop urban farming initiatives.
On the same occasion, Rano shared his experience of tasting Nonsan strawberries firsthand. He praised their quality, noting their sweetness, large size, and excellent standards.
“They are sweet, large, and their quality is comparable to local strawberries,” he said.
Looking ahead, Vice Governor Rano expressed his hope that cooperation between Jakarta and Nonsan City will continue and deliver long-term benefits, particularly in the development of the agricultural sector and urban farming in Jakarta.
“We are committed to maintaining and strengthening this cooperation. This festival serves as an excellent platform to build mutually beneficial and sustainable relations between the two cities,” he concluded.
