The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI: Original Singers Symphony — A Heartfelt Harmony of Imagination

Jakarta, Monday, June 9, 2025 – On Sunday evening (June 8), the main stage of Anime Festival Asia Indonesia (AFAID25) at the Jakarta Convention Center was filled with the enchanting classical music of legendary Studio Ghibli films, in a spectacular performance titled “The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony.” This special concert drew thousands of Ghibli fans of all ages. The event was organized by SOZO in collaboration with PK Entertainment.

The concert opened with a powerful orchestral arrangement from Princess Mononoke, performed by Yoshikazu Mera. Renowned since the 1990s for his classical vocal interpretations, Mera delivered Ghibli’s themes with his signature high-range vocal technique that captivated the audience.

Next, Sumi Shimamoto took to the stage, performing music from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and Princess Mononoke. She is widely known as both a voice actress and a singer, having contributed to six Ghibli films.

The concert continued with a deeply moving performance by Azumi Inoue, famous for singing the theme songs of Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro. Her soft, warm timbre added emotional depth to the evening. She also performed a touching duet with her daughter Yuyu, who made her singing debut on NHK in 2012.

Adding grandeur to the night was the accompaniment of the Tokyo Asia Orchestra, conducted by Concert Master Takeshi Hashima. This professional orchestra brought Ghibli’s music to life with majestic and emotional symphonic arrangements, amplifying the magic of each performance.

“The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony” succeeded in creating an atmosphere filled with nostalgia and heartfelt connection, delivering an unforgettable experience on the final day of AFAID25. The concert stood as a strong testament to the enduring power and cross-generational appeal of Studio Ghibli’s musical legacy.“We are incredibly proud to have brought ‘The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony’ to AFAID25. Seeing the overwhelming response from the audience reaffirms that Ghibli’s music continues to inspire new generations. Thank you to all the fans who joined us for this nostalgic and magical evening!”
