After 5-year hiatus due to mandatory military service for all members, finally DAY6 successfully made a comeback with all four members through their eighth mini-album titled ‘FOUREVER’.
Previously, all four members of DAY6 had to fulfill their mandatory military service, necessitating a hiatus from the K-Pop music scene. It began with Sungjin and Young K who both enlisting in the military in 2021, and followed by Dowoon and Wonpil in 2022.
Wonpil was the last member to complete his military service and shortly after his return, in February, JYP Entertainment announced DAY6 was in the process of shooting a music video for their comeback, which was set to be released in March 2024. This news was a source of joy and emotion for MYDAY (DAY6 fans), who eagerly awaited the return of their beloved band.
DAY6 is a South Korean band under of JYP Entertainment and Studio J, consisting of 4 members: Sungjin as the leader, vocalist, and guitarist; Young K as vocalist and bassist; Wonpil as vocalist, keyboardist, and synthesizer player; and Dowoon as the youngest member and drummer. DAY6 made their debut on September 7, 2015 with the release of their mini-album titled ‘The Day’, featuring the title track ‘Congratulations’, which remains popular among many people and fans until this day, earning the reputation as a nation heartbreak anthem.
Meanwhile, DAY6’s comeback album after 5-year wait, titled ‘FOUREVER’, received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans who waited them for so long. The album became DAY6’s first and Korea’s first K-Band album to achieve the highest sales in its first week, with 130,505 copies sold.
Their title track, ‘Welcome To The Show’, also achieved notable success by topping various domestic charts in Korea such as in BUGS and Vibe, entering the top 10 on the Genie chart and breaking into the TOP 40 on the MelOn chart. This signifies the anticipation of both fans and the entire Korean populace for DAY6’s return to the K-Pop music scene.
Moreover, not only did the songs from their latest album garner attention, but two of DAY6’s hit songs, ‘You Were Beautiful’ and ‘Time of Our Life’ also continued to chart on platforms like BUGS, Genie, and MelOn even during the hiatus of the four members. DAY6’s songs managed to captivate a wide audience, not only MYDAY fans but also many ordinary people who are not necessarily fans of DAY6.
Following their comeback, DAY6 is scheduled to hold a 3-day concert titled ‘Welcome To The Show’ from April 12-14, 2024 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium. Surprisingly, DAY6 managed to sell out tickets for all three concert days within just 20 minutes indicating the growing popularity and success of DAY6 in South Korea.
Furthermore, DAY6 is set to return to Indonesia for the annual MECIMAPRO festival titled ‘Saranghaeyo Indonesia 2024’ on May 4, 2024. DAY6 will showcase many of their cool performances including performing their latest song, ‘Welcome To The Show’ for Indonesian MYDAYs. Not only DAY6, but Young K will also have a solo performance at Saranghaeyo Indonesia 2024 and performing some of his solo songs.
Not only coming to liven up Saranghaeyo Indonesia 2024, DAY6 will also hold a Face To Face Album Sign Event in Jakarta scheduled for May 3, 2024.
