Jakarta, January 29, 2026 — The increasingly familiar phenomenon of online loans has become the central theme of Check Out Now, Pay Later (CAPER), a new drama-comedy film that presents the issue in a fresh and entertaining way. Produced by Scovi Films & Rapi Films, the movie is scheduled to hit Indonesian cinemas on February 5, 2026.
Starring Amanda Manopo and Fajar Sadboy as siblings Tina and Umski, CAPER tells a story that feels close to everyday life: a consumptive lifestyle, economic pressure, and the trap of online loans that can affect anyone. Wrapped in lighthearted comedy, the film invites audiences to laugh while also reflecting on their own realities.
The story centers on Tina, a shopping mall beauty contest winner whose life appears perfect on the surface. Behind the glamorous image, however, Tina struggles with a shopping addiction and reckless spending habits that lead her into mounting online loan debt. Her burden grows heavier as she also has to support her younger brother, Umski. Desperate and out of options, Tina eventually becomes a target for aggressive debt collectors.
Things take an unexpected turn when Tina is forced to strike a deal and work at the very online loan company that has been chasing her. Along the way, she meets Mail (played by Devano), a DJ whose younger sibling is also trapped in online loan debt. Together, Tina and Mail embark on an unpredictable journey that leads them to uncover the dark world of illegal online loan businesses that have claimed countless victims.
Directed by Surya Ardy Octaviand, CAPER portrays the realities of Indonesia’s urban lower-class society in an honest and grounded way. The conflicts feel relatable, while the characters are quirky, absurd, and full of surprises—serving as a mirror that allows audiences to laugh at life’s hardships without judgment.
“The characters in CAPER represent the urban lower class. We want this film to become a ‘National Headache Cure,’” said Surya Ardy Octaviand, who also serves as producer and screenwriter.
The film is produced by Surya Ardy Octaviand alongside Sunar S. Samtani, with a screenplay written by Ardy together with Widya Arifianti, the winner of the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) Citra Award for Best Screenplay. This collaboration delivers a story that is narratively strong while remaining light and accessible.
In addition to Amanda Manopo, Fajar Sadboy, and Devano, the film also features Wavi Zihan, Kaneishia Yusuf, Shanice Margaretha, Merry Sanger, Martin Carter, Sastra Silalahi, Jovial Da Lopez, Richard Derrick, and Arnold Kobogau.
Producer Sunar S. Samtani emphasized that CAPER aims not only to entertain but also to convey meaningful messages. “Many of us may have experienced hitting rock bottom, just like the characters in CAPER. Through comedy, this film encourages resilience in facing life’s problems,” he said.
For Amanda Manopo, the character of Tina offers a space for reflection, especially for women living in the era of social media and constant flexing. “Don’t be like Tina—reckless and wasteful. If we’re not smart about managing our finances, we could end up using online loans for temporary pleasure. CAPER reminds us of something very important, and it delivers the message in a fun, laugh-out-loud way,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Fajar Sadboy, who lands his first major role on the big screen, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to learn from fellow cast members. “Through this film, I learned more about acting and also about being wiser in managing finances,” he shared.
A completely different challenge is faced by Devano, who undergoes a 180-degree transformation from his previously serious roles. In CAPER, he becomes a full-on “jamet” DJ, complete with funky DJ music. Beyond acting, Devano is also entrusted with performing the film’s original soundtrack, delivering songs that are both soulful and dance-inducing.
“Director Ardy gave me a character that’s very different from my previous acting experiences. As someone still growing in this field, exploring diverse roles is very important, and DJ Smile helped me further develop my acting skills,” Devano said.
With its blend of fresh comedy, relevant social issues, and a strong ensemble cast, Check Out Now, Pay Later (CAPER) promises laughter along with a dose of reality. Catch the film in Indonesian cinemas starting February 5, 2026, and stay updated through the official social media accounts of Check Out Now, Pay Later (CAPER).
