Indonesian Women Creators Are Shaping the Future of Video Podcasts on Spotify

Jakarta, March 11, 2026As video podcasts continue to grow in popularity, women creators in Indonesia are embracing the format to share stories, build communities, and spark conversations that reflect the realities of modern life.

Globally, more than 250 million users have watched video podcasts on Spotify. For many women creators, video opens up new creative possibilities. It allows emotions to be expressed more clearly, reactions to feel more authentic, and visual storytelling to deepen the connection with audiences.

Podcasts, once closely associated with audio-only formats, are now evolving into more immersive and personal experiences through video. By combining sound with visual expression, creators can bring their conversations to life in ways that feel more engaging and relatable.

Creating Space for Meaningful Conversations

In Indonesia, creators are exploring this format in different ways. One example is MALAKA, which was named Top Education Podcast Indonesia 2025 at Spotify Wrapped Live. Through video, the podcast presents discussions on social issues, history, and literacy in a way that feels more accessible to a wider audience.

At MALAKA, we started from a shared concern about literacy and humanity in public conversations. We want to create a platform where ideas, history, and social issues can be discussed in ways that are easier for more people to access,” said Cania Citta, Co-founder and Host of MALAKA.
Through podcasting and digital platforms like Spotify, we’re able to reach broader audiences and encourage more meaningful dialogue.”

Building Stronger Connections with Listeners

Connection with listeners is a key driver of podcast growth. According to Spotify data, three out of four users say that watching podcasts helps them feel more connected with the creators they likeand video strengthens that bond even further.

Discussions around careers, relationships, identity, literacy, and wellbeing become more impactful when audiences can see the expressions behind the words shared by the hosts.

Through In Her View, we wanted to create a space where we could share our stories more openly,” said Caroline Soerachmat.
After years of telling other people’s stories as journalists, this podcast gives us the opportunity to talk about our own experiences—including the challenges, failures, and lessons that have shaped who we are today.”

From Personal Stories to Shared Conversations

For creator Tasya Alma, video podcasting has grown far beyond its original purpose. Her podcast Biar Ga Nyesel, which ranked among the Top 5 Self Care Podcasts 2025 at Wrapped Live Indonesia, started as a deeply personal project.

I initially created Biar Ga Nyesel as a very personal source of motivation, but over time it turned into something truly special for me,” Tasya explained.
Video podcasting became a space where I could share about career journeys, life choices, and the questions many of us face. I’m really grateful to see how those conversations resonate with listeners.”

Turning Audiences into Communities

Behind the scenes, tools available on Spotify for Creators help podcasters better understand their audiences and refine their content strategies. Interactive features like Comments and Polls also make it easier for listeners to engage directly with creators.

These features help transform podcast audiences into active communities that participate in ongoing conversations.

Video makes podcasting more immersive and expressive for both creators and audiences,” said Carl Zuzarte, Head of Podcast Spotify Southeast Asia.
In Indonesia and globally, we’re seeing more women creators bringing fresh perspectives to today’s conversations. We want to continue supporting the growth of video podcasting led by women creators, while providing the tools and insights they need to grow.”

A More Diverse Future for Podcasting

As more Indonesian women creators bring their perspectives and stories into the world of video podcasts, Spotify continues to grow its podcast ecosystem.

The platform remains committed to supporting creators at every stage of their journey—helping ensure that a wider diversity of voices, especially from women creators, can be discovered, heard, and celebrated by audiences everywhere.
