Jakarta, December 12, 2024 — In anticipation of the end of 2024, Starvision and Pabrik Cerita present a refreshing comedy-drama film from director Imam Darto’s debut, Modal Nekad. The film tells the story of three siblings, Saipul (Gading Marten), Jamal (Tarra Budiman), and Marwan (Fatih Unru), who are forced to reconcile to pay off their late father’s hospital bills (Budi Ros). With sheer audacity, they decide to steal a TV from an empty house, only for the owner, who turns out to be a mafia kingpin, to unexpectedly return home. Panic ensues as they not only become the perpetrators of a robbery but also witnesses to an astonishing event!
What will happen to these three brothers? Imam Darto, who is also the writer of the film, successfully delivers comedy with an unexpected plot twist! This makes Modal Nekad a fresh end-of-year film and a light-hearted form of entertainment to ease your mind. In addition to the comedy-drama elements, Modal Nekad also includes action scenes that enhance the excitement of the film and get your adrenaline pumping.
This film, created with sincerity as entertainment, and the dedication of the cast in delivering comedy through improvisation, makes Modal Nekad feel close to home. Especially when we see the three brothers, Saipul, Jamal, and Marwan, which may remind us of ourselves as the oldest, middle, or youngest children. Through their story, we will see how a family, once estranged, reunites for the sake of their late father’s peace.
Modal Nekad producer, Chand Parwez Servia, stated that the film is Starvision’s latest offering for Indonesian families. With family values wrapped in fresh comedy, it will serve as a heartwarming form of entertainment in cinemas.
“Although this is Imam Darto’s directorial debut, he has shown his love for filmmaking. How he builds the story and brings freshness to the comedy-drama genre that can be enjoyed by Indonesian moviegoers. We hope Modal Nekad can be the kind of entertainment that lightens our spirits as we head towards the end of 2024, in other words, we’ll laugh hard and kick off the holiday season at the cinema,” said producer Chand Parwez Servia.
Imam Darto, the writer and director of Modal Nekad, shared that the filmmaking process was just as bold as the film’s title. When he met with producer Chand Parwez, he hadn’t fully completed the story yet. However, because of the opportunity given by Starvision and Chand Parwez to provide space for new talents in the film industry, Imam Darto sincerely developed the story he had written, which ultimately turned into a fresh and heartwarming work.
“In making this film, my team and I had nothing to lose. We had no limits, and that’s why Modal Nekad becomes a fresh viewing experience. I hope this resonates with the audience,” said Imam Darto.
Imam Darto co-wrote Modal Nekad with Sesa Nasution and Warman Nasution. In addition to writing and directing, Imam Darto also served as an executive producer along with Reza Servia, Amrit Dido Servia, Warman Nasution, and Raza Servia.
Modal Nekad stars Gading Marten, Tarra Budiman, and Fatih Unru, along with a star-studded cast of actors and comedians, including Bucek, Sahila Hisyam, Gisella Anastasia, Gempita Nora Marten, Mike Lucock, Prisia Nasution, Sadana Agung, Coki Anwar, Fajar Nugra, Tanta Ginting, Reza Hilman, Budi Ros, Astri Nurdin, Joe P Project, Tora Sudiro, Ananda Omesh, Stevie Morley Item, Angga Nggok, Augie Fantinus, Inyonk, Sinyorita Esperanza, Sarah Tumiwa, Chika Waode, Farhan Frisia, Fabio Rayzhan, Jehezkiel Leon, Arsenio Rafisqy, Freya Mikhayla, Dwi Sasono, Mastur, Imam Darto, Ebel Cobra, Andi Sujono, Sherly Dwi Fitri, and special appearances by Floki and The Clan and Iqbaal Ramadhan.
Gading Marten stated that Modal Nekad is a heartwarming comedy-drama film that is perfect for family viewing as we approach the New Year.
“The comedy is hilarious, and the drama is relatable, especially for an older sibling who is relied upon by their father to take care of their younger siblings. But there’s also sadness when, as adults, they end up living separate lives. The story will also resonate with adult viewers who are facing their own challenges,” said Gading Marten.
Meanwhile, Gempita Nora Marten, who makes her film debut in this movie, shared that she was also asked to do comedy. In some scenes, Gempi will deliver unexpected jokes typical of a father figure.
“I’m happy to act with my dad and mom. This is my first experience, and I was asked to make jokes, but Om Darto, the director, taught me how,” said Gempi.
“Usually, I watch Gempi from behind the scenes, but now I can share the screen with Gading. The film has comedy that will make you laugh out loud, and the drama is still strong, focusing on family dynamics and sibling relationships that will resonate with many viewers,” said Gisella Anastasia.
“Why will Modal Nekad be relatable to viewers? For example, the character I play, Jamal, as the middle child. Like many middle children, Jamal feels overlooked. That’s what makes it relatable, and you’ll feel it when watching this film. Jamal’s chaotic life has a reason, and there’s a plot twist at the end that no one will see coming,” said Tarra Budiman, who plays Jamal.
Watch the comedy-drama Modal Nekad in Indonesian cinemas starting December 19, 2024! Keep up with the latest updates on the film through Instagram accounts @modalnekadfilm and @starvisionplus.
