Jakarta, June 19, 2025 — Starvision, the production house known for its successful romantic comedies such as the Get Married franchise and the Eid hit Komang, is back with its latest title, Jodoh 3 Bujang. In collaboration with Rhaya Flicks, this romantic comedy is based on a viral true story that was once adapted into a short documentary about three bachelor brothers undergoing a joint wedding.
Directed by Arfan Sabran and written by Arfan alongside Erwin Wu and Alwi Shihab, Jodoh 3 Bujang is produced by Chand Parwez Servia and Futih Aljihadi. The film stars Jourdy Pranata, Aisha Nurra Datau, Maizura, Christoffer Nelwan, Barbie Arzetta, Rey Bong, Elsa Japasal, Arswendy Bening Swara, Cut Mini, Nugie, Iwan Coy, Zakaribo, Le Roy Osmany, Nunu Datau, Musdalifah Basri, Arla Ailani, Hery Chan, Syamsul, Zulkifli, and others.
Set against the backdrop of a Bugis-Makassar family, Jodoh 3 Bujang tells the story of three bachelor brothers—Fadly (Jourdy Pranata), Kifly (Christoffer Nelwan), and Ahmad (Rey Bong)—who are asked by their parents to hold a joint wedding due to limited finances and cultural traditions. However, Fadly’s fiancée is suddenly arranged to marry a wealthier man by her parents. Fadly must quickly find a new partner, or the entire wedding plan is at risk of falling apart!
The film follows Fadly’s frantic journey to find a new bride—from trying dating apps to blind dates arranged by his parents. But finding love isn’t that easy. With societal pressure and cultural expectations weighing him down, Fadly is increasingly cornered. Meanwhile, his two brothers and their fiancées are ready for the wedding, making things even more complicated.
Producer Chand Parwez Servia stated that Jodoh 3 Bujang offers a fresh perspective in Indonesian cinema by highlighting Bugis-Makassar culture and the modern struggles of young people in finding a life partner. According to Statista, Indonesia had 4.6 million dating app users in 2024—a reality that is reflected in Fadly’s journey in the film.
“Starvision always aims to offer new perspectives in Indonesian cinema. Our stories aren’t just centered around Jakarta but also bring powerful and unique narratives from various regions in Indonesia. After Komang, which highlighted Buton and Balinese culture, Jodoh 3 Bujang explores romantic comedy with themes of love across social classes, set against the backdrop of Bugis-Makassar culture. We hope the audience can take valuable lessons from the characters’ experiences,” said producer Chand Parwez Servia.
Co-producer Futih Aljihadi from Rhaya Flicks added that one of the reasons for joining the project was Starvision’s strong track record in telling local stories with wide appeal.
“Starvision is known for giving space to local stories to reach a broader Indonesian audience. That’s why Rhaya Flicks believes that through Jodoh 3 Bujang, audiences will once again feel the warmth of romantic comedies—a Starvision hallmark. This is a story that offers fresh insight into Indonesia’s cultural diversity,” said Futih Aljihadi.
Writer-director Arfan Sabran explained that the film aims to portray the realities of modern-day Makassar, where younger generations must navigate the traditions upheld by their elders while also facing the pressures of contemporary life.
“Makassar is a dynamic city. The music and film industries are thriving. But amidst this development, traditions still hold strong. In this film, I want to show how those traditions are shifting, and how that affects both the older and younger generations,” said Arfan Sabran.
The film’s central conflict doesn’t just lie with Fadly (played by Jourdy Pranata). Other characters, like Nisa (played by Maizura), also face deep dilemmas. Nisa is forced to accept a marriage proposal from a man offering 500 million rupiah in dowry, while Fadly can only offer 50 million—even after being in a relationship with her for three years. The difference in social status drives them apart.
“Nisa isn’t an antagonist. She’s a passive victim of a highly pressuring system. Her character is complex—on the surface she seems composed, but inside she’s torn and hurting. Nisa is very real, like many women who don’t get to choose their own partners,” said Maizura.
Jourdy Pranata, who plays Fadly, faces the heavy responsibility of being the eldest child. He’s expected to fulfill family expectations and protect his two younger brothers.
“This film shows how a man can go through significant personal transformation at a certain age. Personally, I found the story very challenging—the idea of three brothers marrying at the same time, but one suddenly losing his bride-to-be. I’ve never been engaged or married, so that was a challenge too. Maybe Fadly and I are similar—we’re both in that phase of searching for a life partner. And this film became even more meaningful to me because I had to learn about customs like uang panai, which felt unfamiliar to me. I had a lot of discussions to understand the Bugis-Makassar culture,” said Jourdy.
Aisha Nurra Datau, who plays Rifa—a college friend of Fadly who has since moved away to study in Yogyakarta—represents a contrast to Nisa. Rifa, an only child who holds a master’s degree and has been on pilgrimage, is afraid her dowry might be too high and burden her future partner.
Although very different from her own personality, Nurra approached the character of Rifa with empathy. “Besides learning the language and culture, I had to dive deep into Rifa’s character, which is so different from myself. I had many discussions with the director. I think Jodoh 3 Bujang is not just about tradition, but it also articulates a fresh pack of ideas about how women think in regional cultures. Both Rifa and Nisa face internal battles,” said Aisha Nurra Datau.
“Jodoh 3 Bujang” premieres in cinemas on June 26, 2025!
