Sinemart and Amadeus Sinemagna officially held a series of Press Screening, Conference, and Gala Premiere for the film Mendadak Dangdut on Monday, April 22, 2025, at XXI Epicentrum, Jakarta.
The event was attended by the film’s stars such as Anya Geraldine, Keanu Angelo, Nurra Datau, Wika Salim, Opie Kumis, Adi Sudirja, Dwi Sasono, and the film’s director Monty Tiwa, along with the producers and executive producers from Sinemart and Amadeus Sinemagna.
This warm and festive gala was filled with laughter, emotional moments, and excitement from guests and media who couldn’t wait to watch a film that highlights struggles, dreams, and dangdut music—deeply rooted in Indonesian culture.
More Than Just Dancing – Celebrating Dangdut as a Cultural Identity
Blending comedy and drama, Mendadak Dangdut invites audiences not only to laugh at its quirky characters and light-hearted plot but also to reflect on the heartfelt story of family and perseverance.
The film shows how someone can be thrown into hardship, but with determination and love for family, they can overcome any challenge.
It also pays homage to dangdut—a genre that represents the soul of Indonesian music—and introduces it as a powerful, unifying art form that transcends generations and social classes.
“Through this film, we want to show that dangdut is not just fringe music—it’s part of Indonesia’s identity. Hopefully, this movie becomes a pioneer for Indonesian cinema to be bolder in embracing dangdut as a symbol of national culture,”said David Setiawan Suwarto, Executive Producer.
From Pop Star to Pantura Dangdut Singer – Anya Geraldine Shines
This film is a major milestone for actress Anya Geraldine, who plays Naya, a rising pop star whose life is turned upside down when she’s forced to become a dangdut singer along Java’s northern coast (Pantura).
According to director Monty Tiwa, casting Anya wasn’t just about her popularity—it was about her emotional range and ability to portray a layered character.
“Anya is an actress with a wide emotional range. She brings the depth needed for a story full of contrast and heart,”
said Monty.
For Anya, performing iconic dangdut songs in this film was a unique challenge—but also a revelation.
“Life isn’t always smooth. Sometimes we hit rock bottom, but with the will and heart, we can overcome anything. People who keep fighting for their dreams, no matter the situation, are the strongest,”
Anya said of her role as Naya.
A Surprise Return for Dwi Sasono and a Star-Studded Cast
Veteran actor Dwi Sasono also makes a comeback, reprising his iconic role as Rizal Maduma from the 2006 version of Mendadak Dangdut. Director Monty Tiwa is keeping the twist around Rizal’s character under wraps.
“Dwi is an inseparable part of Mendadak Dangdut. His presence has a lasting impact, and audiences will be surprised and entertained by how his character evolves this time,”
Monty teased.
