The chilling world of The Exit 8 is breaking out of the screen—literally. The viral Japanese horror game developed by Kotake Create is making its leap to the big screen in a live-action film set to premiere in Indonesia this month, with a global release slated for 2025.
“The Exit 8—the infinite-loop psychological horror game about spotting anomalies—has now been brought terrifyingly to life. Prepare for a haunting cinematic experience inside a never-ending underground labyrinth,” reads the official film trailer description.
The trailer offers an eerily faithful recreation of the game’s setting, immersing viewers in a sterile subway corridor that seems to stretch endlessly. Just like in the game, the audience is pulled into the unsettling routine of walking, watching, and waiting for something to go horribly wrong. And in true Exit 8 fashion, the trailer ends with a chilling twist.
Kotake Create, the mind behind the original game, expressed disbelief and excitement over the live-action adaptation—especially since the game only launched last year. During the film’s production, the developers visited the set and were stunned by its authenticity. “It was surreal to walk through the same looping subway corridor we created for the game—only now in real life,” they shared.
In The Exit 8, players are trapped in a looping underground train station, searching for anomalies—subtle, often eerie irregularities in their surroundings. The only way out? Reach the mysterious Exit 8… but only if you follow one rule: spot the anomaly and turn back. Miss it, and you’re sent straight back to the beginning.
First released on PC via Steam in November 2023, The Exit 8 quickly became a phenomenon, with viral gameplay videos amassing over 100 million views on YouTube. It is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and in VR on Meta Quest and Steam.
About the Story:
In this live-action adaptation of the globally acclaimed psychological thriller, a lone man finds himself trapped in a cold, endless subway corridor. His mission is deceptively simple: walk, observe, survive. If something feels off, turn back. If all seems normal, keep going. His only hope is to find Exit 8. But one missed detail could doom him to start over—again and again.
Will he ever escape the loop?
