Jakarta, April 30, 2025 — The latest horror film from Screenplay Films in collaboration with Rapi Films and IFI Sinema, “Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin”, is now showing starting today, April 30, 2025, in theaters across Indonesia. Directed by Tommy Dewo, who previously succeeded with his horror feature film debut and is known for his action series loved by many viewers, “Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin” presents a brutal battle between two archenemies. It stars Satine Zaneta, fighting desperately against Niken Anjani to protect humanity’s survival.
In the battle between Satine Zaneta and Niken Anjani in “Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin”, Marthino Lio also appears as Daru, an investigative journalist. Daru is an ordinary journalist who doesn’t believe in the supernatural but gets caught in a bloody battle that has been ongoing for generations.
Satine Zaneta plays a 19-year-old girl named Ningrum. Ningrum seeks Daru’s help to thwart Pakunjara’s mission, played by Niken Anjani. Pakunjara intends to resurrect the ancient master by taking the hearts of religious leaders. As a demon butcher, Ningrum uses all her strength to fight Pakunjara, who can transform into a terrifying monster and summon wandering spirits to terrorize humans. Pakunjara also has the ability to deceive people by showing them their past, which leads to disaster.
“The horror film ‘Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin’ showcases something rarely seen in Indonesian cinema, especially in the horror genre. In this film, we have a female versus female battle, which I think presents two strong female characters. One from dark power, and the other from white power, both determined and relentless. Ningrum and Pakunjara refuse to give up on their respective missions. This is what makes ‘Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin’ an exciting and fresh horror film,” said Niken Anjani.
“For ‘Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin’, I prepared for about three months with action workshops. From gym sessions to choreographing the action scenes. This film requires me to give my best performance because there are many duel scenes. That’s why I had to build muscle mass in the gym, and I also had to gain five kilograms,” said Satine Zaneta, discussing her preparation for the duel scenes, which also involve weapons.
The writer and director of “Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin”, Tommy Dewo, added that in the casting and character development process, he wanted to bring a different dimension to the characters compared to what they had played before. This is why Satine Zaneta and Niken Anjani deliver brilliant performances and showcase acting qualities that had never been seen in their previous films.
“I wanted to show a different side that hasn’t been portrayed before. I also discussed with the cast to give room for character development to create something unique, not just another stereotype of typical horror films. As a filmmaker, I also try not to repeat what I’ve made before. Therefore, the character design, world-building, and treatment are all different from my previous works,” said Tommy Dewo.
In addition to Satine Zaneta and Niken Anjani, “Demon Butcher: Inherited Sin” also stars two-time FFI Citra Award winner Marthino Lio, Naomi Christy, Kiki Narendra, Gusty Pratama, Eduwart Manalu, and senior actor Budi Ros. Wicky V. Olindo is the producer, with Sunil G. Samtani, Sunar Samtani, and Adi Sumarjono serving as executive producers.
