Hong Kong, March 20, 2025 — Great news from Hong Kong! Pangku, the directorial debut of Reza Rahadian, has just won the HAF Goes to Cannes Program at the 23rd Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF23). Pangku was selected as one of five film projects to win the HAF Goes to Cannes Program and will continue its journey to be presented at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
“The journey of Pangku is certainly still long. However, I am very grateful for the trust given to us by the film industry, even internationally. After this, Pangku will continue its journey to Cannes, meeting potential collaborators. I hope this marks a good start for our film’s journey,” said Pangku director Reza Rahadian.
“This is a very proud achievement and makes our journey in realizing this work even more exciting. This is the result of our hard work along with the entire cast and crew of Pangku. Hopefully, we can soon meet its audience in cinemas,” added Pangku producer Arya Ibrahim.
This is good news following the Pangku film’s win of the White Light Post-Production Awards at the JAFF Market 2024, part of the JAFF Future Project (JFP) 2024. The film is also supported by the Directorate of Film, Music, and Arts of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture.
Pangku tells the story of a woman’s struggle in life and the tradition of “kopi pangku” in the coastal areas of North Java (Pantura). This unique coffee-selling tradition allows coffee buyers to hold the woman making the coffee and chat with her while drinking it.
Directed by Reza Rahadian, Pangku is produced by Arya Ibrahim and Gita Fara, marking the debut film of Gambar Gerak, a production house founded by Reza Rahadian and Arya Ibrahim. The screenplay is written by Felix K. Nesi, winner of the 2018 Best Manuscript award from the Jakarta Arts Council, and Reza Rahadian.
Pangku has completed its shooting and is now in the post-production phase. The film stars Claresta Taufan as Sartika, Fedi Nuril as Hadi, Christine Hakim as Maya, Shakeel Aisy as Bayu, and Devano Danendra as Gilang.
Previously, Reza Rahadian directed the short film Sebelah (2011), which won Best Short Film at the LA Lights Movie Awards in 2012, and was involved in an anthology film titled Wanita Tetap Wanita (2013). He also directed the miniseries Sementara, Selamanya (2020).
Pangku is planned for release in 2025 in Indonesian cinemas. Stay updated on the latest news about Pangku through its official social media accounts.
