Jakarta, May 8, 2025 — Starvision’s latest horror film “Dasim,” directed by Ginanti Rona, is set to hit cinemas across Indonesia on May 15, 2025. The film introduces audiences to the terrifying presence of Jin Dasim, whose supernatural interference threatens the lives and relationship of a newlywed couple expecting their first child.
The story follows Salma (played by Zulfa Maharani) and Arman (Omar Daniel), a happy young couple. But soon after their marriage, Salma begins to experience chilling paranormal disturbances. As she becomes pregnant and Arman gets increasingly busy working overtime on a major architecture project, they move in with Arman’s mother (played by Meriam Bellina). However, the haunting only intensifies, leading to worsening conflicts with her mother-in-law, suspicions of infidelity, and a growing trust in a mysterious neighbor.
“Dasim” features an ensemble cast including Omar Daniel, Zulfa Maharani, Adinda Thomas, Meriam Bellina, Dinda Kanyadewi, Morgan Oey, Arswendy Bening Swara, Yatti Surachman, Grace Ayu, and Tania Hantara. The film reunites stars Omar Daniel and Zulfa Maharani with director Ginanti Rona, whose collaborative chemistry elevates the performances and creates a world that feels disturbingly real.
Director Ginanti Rona expertly crafts a suspenseful narrative filled with mystery and tension, compelling the audience to question which character may be colluding with the dark entity. The horror is relentless—not relying solely on jump scares, but delivering sharp, brutal fear that shocks viewers into screams, enhanced by well-timed and intense sequences.
“Dasim” is produced by Chand Parwez Servia, Riza, and Mithu Nisar, and marks Starvision’s second horror release in 2025 based on real events, following the blockbuster success of “Petaka Gunung Gede”. According to Parwez, “Dasim” presents a new theme that deviates from their previous horror offerings.“Dasim offers a fresh viewing experience for Indonesian horror fans. While our previous horror film focused on friendship and mountain climbing, this one explores how a couple and their family face disturbing forces that seek to tear them apart—specifically through the powerful entity of Jin Dasim. We hope this film not only terrifies but also offers meaningful lessons about protecting relationships from destructive forces,” said producer Chand Parwez Servia.
Director Ginanti Rona shared that “Dasim” was inspired by mystical elements within Islamic teachings, particularly the notion of spiritual deviation and alliances with jinn.“To create the character of Jin Dasim, his capabilities, and origin, we conducted research and consulted religious figures. This gives the story a solid foundation for why this jinn is so manipulative and dangerous to married couples,” Rona explained.
“Dasim will deliver a terrifying experience filled with suspicion, dread, and moments that will make the audience scream.”
Actress Zulfa Maharani takes on a transformative role, portraying Salma as a devout wife deeply rooted in religious values.“Playing a pregnant woman like Salma was a new challenge. Her constant suspicions, fed by Jin Dasim’s deceptions, push her to emotional extremes. The climactic scene especially demanded physical and emotional intensity,” Zulfa shared.
Omar Daniel, who returns to work with both Zulfa and Rona, portrays Arman, a loving husband turned distant and harsh under the jinn’s influence.“At first, Arman is caring and attentive, but as the film progresses, he becomes cold and aggressive—all because of Jin Dasim’s manipulation. The real question is: who is working with Dasim to destroy their marriage? That’s the mystery viewers will be unraveling,” said Omar.
“Dasim” premieres on May 15, 2025, in Indonesian cinemas.
