Jakarta, December 6, 2024 — Trigger Warning! Be on alert and prepare for the psychological terror of the deadliest poison in Kalimantan, Racun Sangga! For those with trypophobia—discomfort with bumps or patterns of numerous holes—this horror film “Racun Sangga: Santet Pemisah Rumah Tangga” will trigger your fear. The heartbreaking and tragic story of the newlywed couple, Andi (Fahad Haydra) and Maya (Frederika Cull), who fall victim to the poison of Racun Sangga, offers a fresh horror experience in Indonesian cinema with a unique approach and packaging.
Producer Sunil Soraya and director Rizal Mantovani have successfully adapted the viral thread of a real-life phenomenon written by Gusti Gina into a horror film filled with tension. Much like waiting for a ticking time bomb to explode, the film “Racun Sangga: Santet Pemisah Rumah Tangga” creates a lethal atmosphere that looms with the power of mystical sorcery.
After the success of the “Suzzanna” franchise, Sunil Soraya, through his production house Soraya Intercine Films, once again brings a breakthrough and innovation in the Indonesian horror genre. Based on a real-life story intertwined with the local beliefs of the people of Kalimantan, “Racun Sangga: Santet Pemisah Rumah Tangga” becomes a fresh horror film under Rizal Mantovani’s direction, blending psychological terror to challenge the viewers’ adrenaline.
“The horror film ‘Racun Sangga: Santet Pemisah Rumah Tangga’ is presented as a film that will deliver intense terror from the deadliest santet in Kalimantan, but it will also be a reflection on the cruelty of humanity, and the bad traits of humans that bring misfortune,” said producer Sunil Soraya.
Director Rizal Mantovani added, he hopes that “Racun Sangga: Santet Pemisah Rumah Tangga” will provide entertainment with a profound impression for Indonesian audiences.
“This film arrives just as we are about to leave 2024 and welcome 2025. Hopefully, we can learn from the film that the bad things that happen to us should not be vented onto others, causing harm. I hope this film also brings a fresh perspective to the horror genre and introduces something new for Indonesian audiences in the new year,” said director Rizal Mantovani.
On February 12, 2021, Maya (Frederika Cull) and Andi (Fahad Haydra) married after undergoing a 1-month Taaruf process. Right after they moved into their new home and began their new life, they started feeling strange occurrences. They began finding dead animals in the house, hearing objects fall from the ceiling, and Andi feeling an oppressive heat in the house.
Andi started getting sick, having nightmares, experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations, coughing up blood, and becoming too weak to stand or walk. Maya, who was also pregnant, had to care for Andi. They tried many medical and alternative treatments in hopes of healing Andi. However, Andi’s condition worsened, putting both their lives in danger. The curse they were experiencing wasn’t over. This is a True Story!
“You will feel the terror experienced by Andi and Maya in this film. Something that may seem illogical, but it really happened. I hope the audience can discover something new through this film. Be on guard and get ready to witness the deadliest santet,” said Frederika Cull, who plays Maya.
