The film Wicked: Part I is the latest musical drama that premiered on November 22, 2024, in cinemas in Indonesia. With a runtime of 160 minutes, the film tells the story of the adventures of two young witches in the land of Oz.
Starring singer Ariana Grande, Wicked tells the story of two witches named Glinda and Elphaba, who become friends after being assigned as roommates in a dormitory. Their meeting happens at Shiz University, a campus in the land of Oz.
Glinda is a young, beautiful, blonde, and popular witch with big ambitions. Meanwhile, Elphaba is a young witch with green skin, making her appear strange and leading to her being ostracized.
At first, Glinda and Elphaba are awkward and don’t get along, especially when they are assigned to share a dorm room. However, as time goes by, their relationship grows closer, and they form a strong bond.
An unexpected event occurs when they get involved in a conflict with a witch from Oz, who has hidden motives. Elphaba, trying to stand up against this witch, is falsely accused of being a traitor.
This situation causes Glinda to be torn between following the rules of Oz or defending Elphaba. Glinda’s popularity causes her to waver, and she is tempted by power, leading them to choose different paths.
Elphaba remains determined to be true to herself and the people around her. The next phase of their journey sees Glinda becoming known as The Good Witch of The North, while Elphaba is branded as The Wicked Witch of The West.
