Jakarta, October 29, 2024 – After working in the film industry as an actor with numerous awards, Reza Rahadian is finally making his debut as a feature film director. During a press conference at Epicentrum XXI, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Reza announced his first feature film titled Pangku. The screenplay for this drama genre film was co-written by Felix K. Nesi and Reza Rahadian, and produced by Arya Ibrahim.
“The idea for Pangku has actually been brewing for a long time. When I finally met the right and talented people to collaborate with, I thought it was time to bring this idea to life. This film is about love, human relationships, and the struggles of life,” explained Reza Rahadian regarding Pangku.
Pangku will tell the story of a woman’s struggles in North Java, featuring a cast that includes Claresta Taufan, Devano Danendra, Fedi Nuril, Shakeel Fauzi, and Christine Hakim. Previously, Reza directed a short film titled Sebelah (2011), which won the Best Short Film award at the LA Lights Movie Award 2012, and he was involved in an anthology film titled Wanita Tetap Wanita (2013). In 2020, he also directed a miniseries titled Sementara, Selamanya.
Claresta Taufan, one of the lead actors in Pangku, expressed her excitement about being involved in the film. “I am very grateful and happy to be a part of this project. It’s wonderful to meet great people, engage in discussions, and gain new knowledge. I can feel that everyone involved is very excited and enthusiastic. It’s also very enjoyable to be directed by Reza. He knows in detail what he wants to convey through this film and each character, even from the early preparation process,” said Claresta Taufan.
Fedi Nuril echoed her sentiments, saying, “I’m really happy to be part of Pangku, which is Reza’s first feature film as a director. I also feel a bit nervous because the story is very personal for Reza. However, I feel calm being directed by him because he knows exactly what he wants, and that’s very important in directing actors. I hope my performance meets Reza’s expectations.”
Pangku will be produced by Gambar Gerak, a production house initiated by Reza Rahadian and Arya Ibrahim since 2020. Since its inception, feature films have been one of Gambar Gerak’s production agendas, and Pangku will be its first feature film production. This film is also supported by the Directorate of Film, Music, and Media, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
Arya Ibrahim, as the producer and one of the founders of Gambar Gerak, expressed his enthusiasm for this production. “After a long journey, we are pleased to announce that Gambar Gerak will finally start producing its first film. Pangku was chosen as the initial step because its story is very personal to us, reflecting various realities that are rarely seen but highly relevant. As we approach the filming of Pangku, I represent Gambar Gerak along with all the cast and crew involved, asking for prayers for smooth production. We hope to meet you all in theaters next year,” said Arya Ibrahim.
Pangku is scheduled to be released in Indonesian cinemas in 2025. Stay updated with the latest information about Pangku through its official social media accounts.
