Jakarta – Friday, March 21, 2025 – Iskandar Widjaja, one of Indonesia’s internationally renowned violinists, will hold a solo concert titled “The Classical Recital – Plays Classics & Indonesian Favourites” on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Usmar Ismail Hall in Jakarta. In this concert, Iskandar will perform alongside the celebrated Indonesian pianist, Stephanie Onggowinoto. Tickets are available online through tiket.com.
Concert Concept
The Classical Recital will showcase the beauty of classical music, harmoniously blended with popular Indonesian songs and regional melodies. This format follows the long tradition from Europe, where such concerts were originally held in intimate settings in small salons, specifically for classical music lovers. The audience will experience a fascinating combination of Western classical works such as Grieg and Tchaikovsky, alongside modern Indonesian compositions like “Konserto Nusantara” by Joko Lemazh.
Meaning of “The Classical Recital”
The recital will be a musical journey through various landscapes of sound, beginning with Edvard Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3, which evokes a Northern European atmosphere. It will be followed by Tchaikovsky’s elegant Valse-Scherzo and Sarasate’s virtuosic Zigeunerweisen. In the second half, the audience will enjoy traditional Indonesian works performed in a classical violin and piano format.
Iskandar Widjaja, globally recognized, has taken classical music to prestigious stages worldwide, including New York, Berlin, London, Italy, and China, receiving enthusiastic applause and sold-out performances.
Unique Aspects of “The Classical Recital”
What makes this concert special is the unique blend of world-class classical masterpieces with deeply emotional traditional Indonesian melodies. The collaboration of these two music genres provides a refreshing, colorful, and emotional concert experience.

The concerto combines popular Indonesian regional songs such as Bungong Jeumpa, O Ina Ni Keke, Paris Barantai, Ayo Mama, and Buka Pintu, presented in a grand three-movement violin concerto format.

The concert will last approximately 2 hours, including a 30-minute intermission and 1.5 hours of main performance.
Musical Collaboration
