ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Returns to Jakarta This Week

Great news for alternative rock fans! Legendary Japanese band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION (AKG) is set to return to Indonesia as part of their 30-year career celebration.

Titled “30TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL CONCERT ‘LIVE IN JAKARTA’”, the show will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Basket Hall GBK Senayan. Organized by Hype Live, this concert is especially notable as it is their only scheduled performance in Southeast Asia.

What makes this event even more special is not only AKG’s return to Jakarta, but also the lineup they are bringing along. They will share the stage with Japanese rock band [Alexandros] and Indonesian indie rock legends The Adams. This rare cross-country collaboration is reportedly exclusive to Jakarta, making it a one-of-a-kind event.

A Rare Collaboration That Draws Global Attention

The appearance of [Alexandros] alongside AKG on the same stage has sparked excitement among fans worldwide. Many are even planning to travel to Jakarta just to witness this rare lineup live.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of The Adams is no coincidence. AKG members are known to admire The Adams’ music, which shares a similar foundation in power pop and alternative rock. Their mutual appreciation for Weezer further strengthens the musical connection between them.

The relationship between the bands goes beyond admiration. AKG vocalist Masafumi Gotoh has even performed a The Adams song in Japanese, while The Adams have covered AKG songs in Indonesian—creating a meaningful cultural exchange.

Memories of Jakarta That Left a Mark

In an exclusive interview, Masafumi Gotoh reflected on AKG’s previous visit to Indonesia, recalling their experience filming a music video at M Bloc Space in South Jakarta.“We met many fans who supported us. It became a very memorable moment for me,” Gotoh said.

When asked about the idea of creating a song inspired by Jakarta, Gotoh imagined a track that blends traditional Indonesian elements with modern influences.“Maybe not just Jakarta, but a mix of cultures, because I feel Indonesia is very diverse,” he added.

Still Inspiring New Generations

Despite their three-decade-long career, AKG continues to inspire younger musicians. Interestingly, Gotoh mentioned that the band does not particularly feel their popularity in daily life.

Still, he expressed gratitude:“We are happy that our songs are still being listened to by younger generations and can serve as inspiration.”
