JAKARTA — Indonesian horror is heading into another dark and mysterious territory with Bisikan Desa Gringsing, a supernatural thriller that combines chilling terror, family drama, and a haunting mystery rooted in a village’s dark past.
Set in a remote village seemingly cut off from the outside world, the film presents a terrifying premise: anyone who attempts to leave the village may face a mysterious and deadly fate. But as the story unfolds, the real horror lies not only in the supernatural creatures lurking in the shadows, but also in the secrets that have been buried for generations.
The story follows Hesti, a young woman struggling to rebuild her life after surviving a suicide attempt. While dealing with the emotional scars left behind by her past, Hesti decides to search for her father, Darmono, who has been absent from her life for years.
Together with her boyfriend, Wahyu, Hesti begins a journey that initially seems like a simple search for a missing family member. However, the further she goes, the closer she gets to a disturbing secret she never expected to uncover.
Her search eventually leads her to her father’s house, where she meets her stepmother, Maya. There, Hesti learns that Darmono has been missing for more than a week without leaving any trace.
With very few clues to follow, Hesti refuses to give up. Her investigation eventually takes her to Gringsing Village, a mysterious settlement surrounded by towering walls and almost completely isolated from the outside world.
Despite being warned to leave immediately, Hesti chooses to enter the village.
That decision marks the beginning of a terrifying nightmare.
Inside Gringsing, Hesti witnesses a horrifying phenomenon: supernatural beings brutally attack those who attempt to escape. What begins as a desperate mission to find her missing father quickly turns into a fight for survival.
Trapped inside the village, Hesti must uncover the truth behind the mysterious curse that has haunted Gringsing and its residents for years. Every discovery brings her closer to the village’s dark history—and deeper into a nightmare that is closely connected to her own family.
As Hesti digs deeper, she begins to uncover secrets that have long been kept hidden. The curse surrounding Gringsing is not simply a supernatural mystery; it is intertwined with the history of the village and the complicated relationship between Hesti and her father.
The deeper she goes, the more she is forced to confront the trauma, regret, and unresolved emotions from her past.
Directed by Ivander Tedjasukmana, Bisikan Desa Gringsing goes beyond traditional horror by exploring themes of emotional wounds, guilt, family relationships, and the search for redemption.
