Four Female Journalists Take on a Deadly Hunt for a Child Predator in a Race Against Time

Jakarta, September 21, 2026 — Sinemaku Pictures is set to deliver one of its boldest cinematic experiences of the year with Memburu Pemangsa, a gripping horror-crime-action thriller produced and directed by Umay Shahab. The film opens in cinemas across Indonesia on September 24, 2026, following highly enthusiastic early screenings in seven cities: Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok, Yogyakarta, Medan, and Makassar, where screenings were met with strong audience response and many sold-out sessions.

For Umay Shahab, Memburu Pemangsa represents a major creative evolution. The film explores the deeply disturbing and highly relevant issue of violence against children, while pushing the filmmaker into a larger cinematic scale than his previous work. More than simply a genre film, Memburu Pemangsa marks what Umay describes as a personal and spiritual journey as a filmmaker.

At the center of the story are four female journalists, played by Laura Basuki, Prilly Latuconsina, Taskya Namya, and Yasamin Jasem, who find themselves drawn into a dangerous investigation surrounding a predator targeting children. Their pursuit takes them deeper into a world where crime, horror, investigation, and supernatural elements collide—and where every step closer to the truth could cost them their lives.

The film also features Teuku Rifnu Wikana, Andri Mashadi, Septian Dwi Cahyo, Shareefa Daanish, and Jordan Omar.

What makes the threat in Memburu Pemangsa particularly unsettling is that the ultimate enemy is not simply a ghost or a demon. It is a human being capable of committing horrifying crimes—with evil forces lurking behind the darkness. The result is an intense cinematic experience designed to keep audiences on edge from beginning to end.“As a human being and as a filmmaker, I naturally want to keep growing. Memburu Pemangsa is a new form of my work, presented through horror-crime-action. It offers a tense viewing experience with a different color from my previous films, and in many ways, it has become a spiritual journey for me,” said producer and director Umay Shahab.

“This film tackles an important issue—the crimes committed against children, which remain alarmingly prevalent. I hope Memburu Pemangsa can also contribute to the conversation around an issue that we need to continue talking about.”

Four Women, One Dangerous Investigation

For Laura Basuki, who plays Agnes, the opportunity to explore a horror-action story was one of the reasons she was drawn to the project, alongside the film’s important subject matter.

With its blend of horror, crime, action, and investigative elements, Memburu Pemangsa offers a different kind of horror experience—one that is rooted not only in fear, but also in the urgency of uncovering the truth.“You will experience the full cinematic journey in this film, as horror, crime, and action come together. It is a new experience for me. I hope the film can also create space for discussion and encourage people to understand where they can seek help when something like this happens to them,” said Laura Basuki.

The film also marks Laura’s first collaboration with Sinemaku Pictures and her first time working alongside Prilly Latuconsina, Taskya Namya, and Yasamin Jasem in this project.

For Prilly Latuconsina, Memburu Pemangsa is also an opportunity to encourage audiences to become more aware and responsive to violence against children.“When it comes to sexual violence against children in Indonesia, it’s not simply about a lack of news or information. There is already a lot of information, but we also need to recognize the culture of silence. In certain environments, including within families, or even when we read about these cases, we often don’t know what to do, so they end up being left unresolved,” Prilly explained.

“A story can go viral for a day or two, but there needs to be proper action and response. This is an issue that requires all of us to speak up and respond appropriately.”

Meanwhile, Taskya Namya, who has experience in both horror and action films, describes her role as Brina as a physically demanding challenge.“It requires a lot more energy because you’re combining two genres that can really leave you out of breath. The exhaustion feels doubled. I think audiences will also feel that intensity as they follow the four of us investigating the predator throughout the film,” said Taskya.

“I can see a part of myself in Cia. She is an aunt who protects her niece, and in real life, I’m also an aunt who has to look after my three nieces.”

For Yasamin Jasem, who plays Anya, the character’s fascination with research and demonology created a particularly strong connection between the actress and her role.“Anya and I have a lot in common. She is a journalist who conducts research and has a deep interest in demonology. I also watch a lot of crime documentaries and content involving cults,” Yasamin said.

“As part of our preparation, the cast also met with the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas Perlindungan Anak). For me, that became an important spark that strengthened our commitment to speaking about the issue explored in this film. I hope everyone can take something meaningful away from the film and become better after watching it.”

A Race Against Time

At the heart of Memburu Pemangsa is a terrifying mystery: four children have disappeared from the same area, only to be found mutilated. And now, another child is in danger.

Agnes (Laura Basuki), the editor-in-chief of Daily Wave News, has spent years rejecting her own supernatural abilities following the death of her daughter. But everything changes when she witnesses a child being abducted right in front of her.

Unable to turn away, Agnes joins forces with three fellow female journalists—Cia (Prilly Latuconsina), Brina (Taskya Namya), and Anya (Yasamin Jasem)—alongside a police officer named Petra (Andri Mashadi).

Together, they begin investigating a dark and increasingly disturbing case that takes them far beyond an ordinary criminal investigation.

As the danger closes in, they are faced with an impossible choice: walk away and save themselves, or risk their lives for children who have been failed by the people meant to protect them.
