Meaning of “The Classical Recital”
“The Classical Recital” represents a musical journey through various soundscapes. It starts with Edvard Grieg’s Sonata No. 3, filled with the northern European feel, followed by Tchaikovsky’s elegant “Valse-Scherzo,” and Sarasate’s virtuoso “Zigeunerweisen.” In the second half, the audience will enjoy traditional Indonesian pieces performed in classical violin and piano arrangements.
Iskandar Widjaja, who is globally recognized, has brought classical music to prestigious stages around the world, including New York, Berlin, London, Italy, and China, where his performances received standing ovations and sold-out tickets.
Special Features of the Concert
What makes this concert unique is the special combination of world classical masterpieces with touching traditional Indonesian melodies. The collaboration of these two musical genres will offer a fresh, colorful, and deeply emotional concert experience.
“Konserto Nusantara” will be highlighted as it was a special piece composed for Iskandar Widjaja by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X of Yogyakarta, and was first performed with the Royal Orchestra Yogyakarta. This concerto incorporates popular Indonesian regional songs like Bungong Jeumpa, O Ina Ni Keke, Paris Barantai, Ayo Mama, and Buka Pintu in a grand three-movement classical violin concerto format.
Collaborating Musicians
Iskandar Widjaja will perform alongside talented pianist Stephanie Onggowinoto, a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, and a widely recognized figure in the Indonesian classical music scene.
