FFI Announces Final Jury Panel and Citra Award Night for FFI 2024, Featuring Anggun

Jakarta, November 14, 2024 – The Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) will hold the 44th Citra Awards in 2024. Supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, the FFI Citra Award Night 2024 will take place on November 20, 2024, at ICE BSD, Tangerang. After announcing the nominees on October 18, 2024, at Vredeburg Fort in Yogyakarta, the pinnacle of Indonesia’s highest film awards is now approaching.

The theme for FFI 2024 is “Merandai Cakrawala Sinema Indonesia” (Exploring the Horizon of Indonesian Cinema). The word merandai means to traverse or explore. Through this theme, FFI 2024 aims to become a space for collaboration to build a more creative, innovative, inclusive, and productive ecosystem for Indonesian cinema.

FFI 2024 marks the first year of the 2024–2026 FFI Committee, chaired by Ario Bayu. Ario Bayu, Chair of the FFI 2024–2026 Committee, stated that in his first year leading the committee, he encourages the entire Indonesian film ecosystem to continue collaborating and celebrating Indonesian cinema.

“I hope that FFI this year will continue to be a source of motivation for Indonesian filmmakers. Especially considering the remarkable achievements Indonesian cinema has recorded over the past year, from the box office successes to the proud accomplishments of Indonesian filmmakers on the global film stage. FFI remains committed to being a platform that appreciates all the technical artistry of Indonesian cinema, upholding the values of meritocracy and accountability. The FFI 2024–2026 Committee has worked hard to prepare the 2024 Citra Award Night as a celebration for everyone, including Indonesian audiences. I hope this will be a moment where the Indonesian film ecosystem can improve and grow even further in the future,” said Ario Bayu.

One special highlight of FFI 2024 is the return of the Antemas Trophy for the Highest-Grossing Indonesian Film at the box office. The Antemas Trophy was part of the FFI awards from 1974 to 1992, then paused, and later revived in the early 2000s before being discontinued again.

The revival of the Antemas Trophy has been in the works since FFI 2023, during the 2021–2023 Committee, chaired by Reza Rahadian. The award is named after Antemas, a film producer and distributor. Bringing back the Antemas Trophy is timely, with the 2024 box office revenue for Indonesian films surpassing 69 million tickets sold.
