The film “Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis,” directed by Reka Wijaya, is set to hit Indonesian theaters on October 17, 2024, presenting a story centered around mental health issues that many people may experience.
“We want this film to be a safe space for audiences to feel a range of emotions,” said director Reka Wijaya during a press conference for the film at XXI Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
“Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis” follows the journey of Tari (Prilly Latuconsina) and her family, along with those closest to her. After her brother leaves home, Tari struggles alone to save her mother (Dominique Sanda) from her father (Surya Saputra), who is abusive.
Carrying many burdens and traumas since childhood, Tari begins to feel overwhelmed. With the support of Baskara (Dikta Wicaksono), her close friend, she starts to delve deeper into herself to reach her desired point. Will Tari be able to resolve her family issues and confront her own challenges?
The film aims to prompt viewers to reflect more deeply on emotions, including the sadness that many tend to suppress. Through Tari’s story, it highlights the importance of acknowledging and expressing feelings as a crucial first step toward self-healing.
“We want this film to be a companion for anyone struggling with their emotions,” said Umay Shahab, producer of “Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis.”
Prilly Latuconsina added, “I hope this film can serve as a catalyst for audiences to engage in discussions after watching.”
