Here it is, the trailer for Jerome Kurnia’s movie “kuasa gelap” Exorcism and the Fight of Faith.

Kuasa Gelap officially released its first trailer on Tuesday (8/20) evening. The trailer features Jerome Kurnia as a young priest named Pastor Thomas and his struggle against evil spirits.

The more than two-minute trailer opens with two teenage girls trying to perform a séance using a jelangkung doll.

The incident leads to an incident that changes the fate of Kayla (Lea Ciarachel) and Cilla (Freya JKT48), which is later connected to the life and death struggle of Father Thomas (Jerome Kurnia).

The trailer then shows Father Thomas, a young priest who feels he has lost his faith because he cannot help people. He is going through a difficult time after his mother and sister died in an accident.

In the midst of this dark period, various cases of possession were reported to the Catholic church. Some of these cases were concluded to be medical symptoms, but others turned out to require exorcism rituals.

Kayla and Cilla seem to have experienced such cases. They seem to behave strangely after using jelangkung.

Some scenes then show Kayla and Cilla trying to hurt themselves while possessed. In one scene, Kayla even hit her head against the glass of a car.

The trailer continues with an indecisive Father Thomas. He wants to resign from his religious duties, but is encouraged to help solve Kayla and Cilla’s case.

Father Thomas decides to help Father Rendra (Lukman Sardi) to save Kayla and Cilla’s lives. The trailer shows Father Thomas and Father Rendra performing an exorcism.

Kuasa Gelap is directed by Bobby Prasetyo who previously worked on a number of horror films, such as Rumah Dinas Bapak, Thagut, and Pamali Dusun Pocong. While the script was written by Andri Cahya

The story of an exorcism on the big screen is no stranger. A number of legendary horror films are also about exorcism, such as The Exorcist (1974), or the widely known The Conjuring (2013).

However, in Indonesia, horror films are dominated by supernatural stories or revenge in the form of local ghosts, such as kuntilanak, pocong, or sundal bolong.

Some Indonesian horror films with the theme of exorcism also mostly use the perspective of Muslims as the majority of the population in Indonesia.

Kuasa Gelap will be in theaters starting October 3.
