Kuasa Gelap, Indonesia’s First Horror Film About Exorcism, Set to Premiere in October

Bobby Prasetyo has gained recognition in the Indonesian horror film scene. This Semarang-born director has helmed several notable horror films, including Pamali (2022), Pamali: Dusun Pocong (2023), Eyang Putri (2021), and Thaghut (2024).

This time, he collaborates with Paragon Picture and Ideosource Entertainment to release Indonesia’s first Catholic horror film focused on exorcism, which is referred to in Christian teachings as exorcism. Bobby reveals that the film is inspired by real exorcism cases that have occurred in Indonesia. The screenplay is written by Andri Cahyadi.

Kuasa Gelap is scheduled to hit Indonesian theaters on October 3, 2024. Since the release of its trailer, the film has captured public attention and is predicted to offer a new experience for Indonesian horror film enthusiasts. The film tells the story of a Catholic priest named Romo Thomas, played by Jerome Kurnia, who is training under a senior priest named Romo Rendra, portrayed by Lukman Sardi, to assist in the exorcism ritual. They visit a teenage girl named Kayla, played by Lea Ciarachel, who is possessed by a demon. The case is complicated by the dark and mysterious past of Kayla’s mother, Maya, played by Astrid Tiar.

Kuasa Gelap features a star-studded cast, including Lukman Sardi, Jerome Kurnia, Astrid Tiar, Lea Ciarachel, Freya JKT48, and Delia Husein. The film is directed by Bobby Prasetyo and produced by Robert Ronny.
