Jakarta, January 17, 2025 — Starting the new year of 2025, Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment announced their latest family drama film, ‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’ (Lyora: The Waiting for a Child), which is about to begin shooting. Adapted from the novel ‘Lyora: Keajaiban yang Dinanti’ (Lyora: The Miracle We Waited For) by Fenty Effendy, it tells the true story of Meutya Hafid and her husband, Fajrie, who fought to welcome their long-awaited child, amid Meutya’s busy career as the Chairwoman of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission I at that time.
According to data released by the WHO, 1 in 6 women worldwide experience infertility, a reproductive disorder that makes it difficult for someone to conceive. Data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Health shows that in Indonesia, 10-15% or 4-6 million couples out of 39.8 million couples of childbearing age experience infertility. The producer of ‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’, Robert Ronny, added that the film could inspire and strengthen parents who are struggling to have children.
“The story of Lyora has been known to me for a long time, as Meutya is a close friend of my wife. However, the idea to bring it to the big screen only came after the novel was published and received widespread attention. This story is so powerful and inspirational, which made me feel it was the right one to adapt into a film. We want to present a warm and heartfelt story that will also provide encouragement for parents who are going through their own waiting journey,” said producer Robert Ronny.
‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’ will be directed by Pritagita Arianegara (Best Director Nominee, Indonesian Film Festival 2016), and produced by Virgie Baker, Robert Ronny, and Pandu Birantoro, with Andi Boediman as executive producer. During the press conference for the Kick-Off of filming ‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’, Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment also announced the star-studded cast. They include Marsha Timothy, Darius Sinathrya, Widyawati, Olga Lydia, Hannah Al Rashid, Aimee Saras, Ariyo Wahab, and Ivanka Suwandi. Marsha Timothy and Darius Sinathrya will star as Meutya Hafid and her husband, Fajrie.
‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’ tells the story of Meutya Hafid and Fajrie, a couple who struggled to have a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and faced three miscarriages in one year before finally succeeding at the age of 44. The film narrates the waiting, miracles, and the mental struggle of an extraordinary woman.
Ahead of filming, the cast members have participated in reading sessions. Marsha Timothy, who portrays Meutya Hafid in the film, expressed her excitement and felt honored to play such an incredible woman.
“Lyora serves as a voice for women who are or have ever struggled to conceive. This film will also tell the story of the parent-child relationship. I am honored to be entrusted with portraying the remarkable Indonesian woman, Mrs. Meutya Hafid. She is a woman dedicated to her work, and that is something we have in common. But despite being a hardworking individual, Mrs. Meutya is also a loving and caring figure towards her family, including Lyora, her child,” said Marsha Timothy.
Meanwhile, Darius Sinathrya, who plays Fajrie, Meutya Hafid’s husband, said the film ‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’ carries a meaningful message about the perseverance of couples who are waiting for their children, a theme that is highly relevant to Indonesian audiences.
“The story of Meutya Hafid and Fajrie’s struggle to have a child will resonate with many people in our society. During the waiting period, the support system is crucial, especially from the husband. For that reason, Fajrie’s role is significant in their journey to eventually have a child named Lyora. I can’t wait to start filming with the cast and work with the director. Hopefully, when the film is released in theaters, it will provide a heartwarming story for Indonesian audiences,” said Darius Sinathrya.
The struggle and journey to have a child is a profound experience, with emotions running high during failures and eventual success, which feels like an effort rewarded with a miracle.
“The story of Lyora reflects the commitment of Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment in presenting innovation through topics that are rarely raised but are close to the hearts of the people. Through in-depth research, we strengthen the story to provide an authentic and emotional viewing experience,” added executive producer of ‘Lyora’, Andi Boediman.
‘Lyora: Penantian Buah Hati’ will resonate deeply with many families, particularly fathers and mothers at any stage—whether they are planning, waiting, experiencing loss, or struggling to have a child. A child is not merely a goal, but more than that, it is a prayer and hope, a desire to express and channel love.
