Jakarta, September 2, 2026 — Indonesian horror fans have another chilling experience to look forward to. Internationally acclaimed actress Aghniny Haque is set to make her international debut in Khadam, a Malaysia-Indonesia horror collaboration that will officially hit cinemas across Indonesia on September 16, 2026.

Blending psychological horror with supernatural terror, Khadam follows a mother whose peaceful life is shattered when a mysterious entity—initially believed to be a spiritual “guardian”—turns against her and attempts to take over her identity and place within her own family.

Distributed theatrically in Indonesia by CBI Pictures, the film is produced by Red Communications and Komet Productions, in collaboration with Indonesia’s MAGMA Entertainment and VMS Studios. The project also brings together major entertainment companies from across Asia, including Sil Metropole Organisation from China, Applause Entertainment from India, as well as Malaysia’s Golden Screen Cinemas and Primeworks Studios.

Aghniny Haque Takes on a Challenging Dual Performance

In Khadam, Aghniny Haque takes on the role of Melor, a mother who is unable to speak and lives peacefully with her two children. Her quiet life, however, takes a terrifying turn when a supernatural “guardian” begins to invade her world, threatening not only her safety but also her identity as a mother.

At the heart of the story lies an unsettling question: What happens when the entity meant to protect you decides to replace you instead?

For Aghniny, portraying Melor was both an exciting opportunity and one of the most demanding roles of her career. With little to no dialogue to rely on, she had to communicate Melor’s fear, desperation, and emotional turmoil largely through her physical performance and facial expressions.“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play Melor because it was an extremely challenging role. Throughout the film, I had to portray two characters while constantly shifting between different emotional states,” Aghniny Haque said.

Her performance becomes even more intriguing as Melor’s struggle unfolds largely in silence, forcing the audience to experience her fear through every gesture, glance, and reaction.

Khadam Earns International Attention

Before arriving in Indonesia, Khadam had already made waves across Southeast Asia. The film opened in Malaysia on June 11, 2026, followed by Cambodia on July 27 and Singapore on August 27.

Its Malaysian theatrical run proved particularly successful, with the film generating more than US$1.3 million in box-office revenue. The strong reception has also positioned Khadam as one of the horror titles to watch this year.

Aghniny’s performance has been a major talking point among regional audiences and critics. Malaysian newspaper The Star praised her portrayal, describing her performance—much of which required her to play a mute character—as “brilliant.”

The film also features a strong Malaysian ensemble cast, including Remy Ishak, Siti Khadijah Halim, Zarra Zaff, Karl El, and veteran actress June Lojong.

From Southeast Asia to Hong Kong and Macau

Following its theatrical releases in Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, and Indonesia, Khadam is scheduled to expand its international reach with theatrical releases in Hong Kong and Macau in October 2026.

With its unsettling premise, supernatural elements, and emotionally intense central performance, Khadam offers more than conventional jump scares. At its core is a deeply personal story about motherhood, identity, and the desperate fight to protect the people we love—even when the greatest threat comes from something that was supposed to protect us.
