Dewi Siluman Ular: A Haunting Tale of Love, Betrayal, and Supernatural Terror

Starring Anya Geraldine, Aulia Sarah, and Aghniny Haque, the upcoming Indonesian horror film explores the dark consequences of forbidden desires, complicated relationships, and the choices that can change a family’s destiny.

JAKARTA — Love, betrayal, and supernatural terror collide in Dewi Siluman Ular, an upcoming Indonesian horror film that promises more than frightening encounters with the unknown. Blending supernatural elements with domestic drama and emotional conflicts, the film takes audiences into a disturbing story about love, temptation, and the consequences of human decisions.

The film was introduced at XXI Epicentrum, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, ahead of its nationwide theatrical release on November 12, 2026.

Inspired by a story brought to public attention by podcaster Prasodjo Muhammad, Dewi Siluman Ular features three prominent actresses in compelling roles: Anya Geraldine as Dewi Siluman Ular, Aulia Sarah as Rahma, and Aghniny Haque as Lela. The story revolves around Dedi, played by Derby Romero, a family man whose complicated romantic relationships gradually lead him into a world of danger and supernatural horror.

Rather than relying solely on frightening moments, the film explores the emotional tensions within a household, showing how dissatisfaction, betrayal, and misguided decisions can open the door to unexpected consequences.

A Marriage Caught Between Love and Dissatisfaction

At the center of the story is Dedi, a man struggling to maintain his marriage while dealing with his own emotional needs.

Derby Romero explains that Rahma, played by Aulia Sarah, is the woman who stood beside Dedi when he was building his life from nothing. She accompanied him through difficult times until he eventually achieved financial success.

However, as their circumstances change, so does their relationship. Dedi begins to feel that Rahma’s expectations are endless and that his efforts are no longer appreciated. He increasingly struggles with the feeling that he is not understood in his own home.

This emotional distance eventually brings him closer to Lela, portrayed by Aghniny Haque, a woman who seems capable of offering the affection and attention he believes he has been missing.

“Sometimes, as men who are simply trying to survive and make a living, all we want is to be understood and to have a place where we feel at home. That is what Lela offers,” Derby said.

Playing Dedi also gave Derby an opportunity to reflect on the importance of making thoughtful decisions. He believes that many people may encounter similar situations in their relationships, but the key is to avoid rushing into decisions or taking shortcuts when facing personal problems.

Aulia Sarah: Rahma Is More Than a Materialistic Wife

For Aulia Sarah, portraying Rahma required looking beyond the character’s seemingly demanding personality.

She believes Rahma’s expectations are rooted in her desire to provide a better life for her family, particularly her beloved children. Her demands are not necessarily driven by personal greed but by her understanding of what a family needs.

However, after spending years living with financial limitations, Rahma gradually becomes accustomed to a more luxurious lifestyle. As she begins enjoying the comforts of financial success, her priorities slowly shift. She becomes increasingly focused on her own desires, eventually losing sight of the values that once mattered most.

Even after the family achieves financial stability, Rahma continues to demand more and struggles to feel satisfied.

Nevertheless, Aulia does not consider her character simply a materialistic woman. Instead, she sees Rahma as someone who approaches marriage from a realistic perspective, believing that emotional affection alone cannot sustain a household.

“Love is not enough,” Aulia said.

Her interpretation adds another layer to the film’s domestic conflict, inviting audiences to consider the complicated relationship between love, financial security, personal expectations, and family responsibilities.

Anya Geraldine Faces an Unusual Co-Star: A Real Snake

While Rahma and Lela represent the emotional and romantic dimensions of the story, Anya Geraldine’s character introduces a more mysterious and supernatural element.

Playing Dewi Siluman Ular presented a unique challenge, particularly because Anya had to share scenes with a real snake named Albert.

She admitted that she initially felt nervous upon learning that she would have to act alongside the reptile. To overcome her anxiety, she chose to pray before filming and gradually developed a sense of trust during her interactions with Albert.

Anya also credited director Azhar Kinoi Lubis for helping her understand Dewi’s personality and emotional perspective. She appreciated the guidance and encouragement she received throughout production, describing the atmosphere on set as warm and family-like.

One particularly memorable moment happened during a scene in which Dewi was expressing anger. Unexpectedly, Albert suddenly moved upward, creating a dramatic moment that happened to complement the scene perfectly.

“Perhaps the universe was helping us,” Anya recalled.

She explained that she had no idea where Albert would move or what his mood would be at the time. Yet, the snake’s unexpected movement seemed to align naturally with the emotions of the scene.

For Anya, the experience became one of the most interesting and unpredictable moments during filming.

Aghniny Haque Explores Lela’s Search for Love

Unlike Dewi’s supernatural presence and Rahma’s complicated marriage, Lela represents another emotional dimension of the story.

Aghniny Haque describes her character as a woman who simply wants to experience love and feel safe in a relationship. However, her desire for affection leads her to a man who carries a mysterious curse.

For Aghniny, Lela’s journey reflects the consequences of making choices without fully understanding the person involved.

She believes Lela should have taken more time to understand Dedi’s background before accepting him into her life. Her decision eventually places her in a situation far more complicated and dangerous than she could have imagined.

When asked whether women like Lela still exist in real life, Aghniny offered an interesting perspective on modern relationships. She admitted that she is no longer convinced that completely selfless love is easy to find.

In her view, women today are becoming more discerning about their choices and increasingly aware of what they want and deserve in relationships.

Through Lela, the film explores how the search for affection can sometimes lead people into unexpected and potentially destructive situations.

Creating Authentic Performances from Young Actors

Beyond directing its adult cast, Azhar Kinoi Lubis also paid special attention to the performances of the film’s younger actors.

According to the director, his approach was to encourage children to act naturally rather than deliver exaggerated expressions or performances that felt overly rehearsed.

To support this process, parents accompanied the young actors from the script-reading sessions through the filming process. They were also given an understanding of the scenes their children would be performing.

For horror sequences involving children, Kinoi preferred to emphasize mystery and atmosphere rather than rely on spectacular or overly intense visual effects.

He also introduced playful approaches to help the young performers remain spontaneous.

In one example, a child actor was simply asked to look for a toy car without being given a detailed explanation of the scene’s overall scenario. This allowed the child to respond naturally, producing expressions and reactions that felt more genuine on screen.

The approach reflects the director’s intention to create a horror experience that feels emotionally believable while remaining mindful of the young cast.

More Than a Horror Film: The Consequences of Every Choice

As the film’s introduction event came to a close, producer Chand Parwez invited audiences to experience Dewi Siluman Ular in cinemas starting November 12, 2026.

He also shared a message that captures one of the film’s central themes: the importance of choosing the right path when navigating life’s challenges.

“Surviving is important, but choosing the right path is even more important,” he said.

The statement reflects the film’s broader exploration of human relationships and the consequences of decisions made in moments of emotional vulnerability.

Through its combination of domestic conflict, romantic entanglements, and supernatural horror, Dewi Siluman Ular aims to offer audiences a story that goes beyond conventional scares.

The production also marks a collaborative effort involving its cast and crew, whom Chand Parwez praised for their dedication throughout the filmmaking process.

With Anya Geraldine, Aulia Sarah, Aghniny Haque, and Derby Romero leading the story, the film brings together emotional performances and supernatural suspense in an intriguing cinematic package.

Ultimately, Dewi Siluman Ular reminds audiences that the most terrifying consequences do not always come from the supernatural. Sometimes, they begin with ordinary human desires, unresolved conflicts, and choices that cannot easily be undone.
