Mackenyu to Star as Mash Burnedead in Live-Action Mashle: Magic and Muscles, Hitting Japanese Theaters in March 2027

The beloved manga series by Hajime Komoto is getting its first live-action film adaptation, with actor Mackenyu taking on the role of the muscle-powered hero in a world ruled by magic.

JAKARTA — Get ready to see muscles take on magic! Mashle: Magic and Muscles, the popular manga by Hajime Komoto, is officially getting a live-action film adaptation. The movie is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on March 19, 2027, bringing the hilarious and action-packed adventures of Mash Burnedead to the big screen.

The announcement was made through the film’s official account on November 3, 2026. Alongside the announcement, the production team unveiled a teaser visual featuring the main character standing with his back to the audience, dressed in a mysterious magical school robe.

One detail, however, immediately catches the eye: instead of carrying a traditional magic wand, the character is holding a dumbbell.

It’s a fitting introduction to Mash, a protagonist whose extraordinary physical strength makes him stand out in a world where nearly everyone relies on magic.

According to Anime News Network, the film is being produced by Warner Bros. in collaboration with production company CREDEUS. The project marks another major expansion of the Mashle franchise, which has already inspired an anime series and several other adaptations.

Mackenyu Transforms Into Mash Burnedead

One of the biggest highlights of the live-action adaptation is its leading star, Mackenyu, who will portray Mash Burnedead.

Known for his action roles and physical performances, Mackenyu has reportedly undergone extensive physical training to embody the muscular protagonist.

According to Crunchyroll, the actor revealed that he spent three years preparing his physique after receiving the offer to play Mash.

“As the best preparation I could make, I spent three years since receiving the offer building a physique that I hope fans will approve of. I sincerely hope you will come to the theater and see the results on the big screen,” Mackenyu shared.

His dedication reflects the physical demands of the character, whose defining strength comes not from magical abilities but from years of relentless muscle training.

For fans of the original manga and anime, seeing Mackenyu bring Mash’s larger-than-life personality and incredible strength to live action is certainly one of the film’s biggest attractions.

What Is Mashle: Magic and Muscles About?

Set in a world where magic is an essential part of everyday life, Mashle: Magic and Muscles follows a society in which a person’s status and future are largely determined by their magical abilities.

The story centers on Mash Burnedead, a young man who has absolutely no magical powers. Living quietly in a forest with his adoptive father, Mash spends most of his time doing one thing: training his muscles.

His peaceful life takes an unexpected turn when his lack of magical abilities is discovered, putting both his safety and his father’s life at risk.

To protect his family, Mash is forced to enter the world of magic and enroll in a prestigious magic school. His ultimate goal is to become a Divine Visionary, one of the highest honors a magician can achieve.

But there’s one major problem: Mash cannot use magic at all.

Instead of casting spells, he relies entirely on his extraordinary physical strength to overcome challenges, defeat powerful opponents, and compete against talented young magicians.

The contrast between a magic-filled world and a protagonist who solves almost every problem with his muscles creates the series’ signature blend of fantasy, action, and comedy.

From Hit Manga to Anime and Now Live Action

Created by Hajime Komoto, Mashle: Magic and Muscles first began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in January 2020. The manga concluded in July 2023, establishing itself as a popular fantasy-comedy series.

Its popularity later expanded with an anime adaptation, which premiered its first season in 2023, followed by a second season in 2024.

The anime also gained significant international attention through its opening theme song, “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” by Creepy Nuts, which became a viral hit and introduced the series to an even wider audience.

Beyond its manga and anime adaptations, the Mashle franchise has expanded into novels, stage productions, and video games, demonstrating its growing popularity across different entertainment platforms.

Now, the upcoming live-action film marks another exciting chapter for the franchise, offering fans the opportunity to experience Mash’s unconventional adventures through real-life performances and cinematic action.

When Will the Live-Action Mashle Movie Be Released?

The live-action adaptation of Mashle: Magic and Muscles is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on March 19, 2027.

With Mackenyu stepping into the role of Mash Burnedead and three years of physical preparation behind him, expectations are building for this new interpretation of Hajime Komoto’s beloved character.

For fans, the biggest question remains: can Mash’s incredible muscles overcome the magic of the big screen?

One thing is certain: in Mash’s world, you don’t need magic when you’ve got muscles!
