Following his acclaimed win for Best Director at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for Decision to Leave, legendary filmmaker Park Chan-wook is back with his long-anticipated thriller, No Other Choice. Adapted from Donald E. Westlake’s gripping novel The Ax, this intense drama is already making waves on the international stage.
The film recently took home the International People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), adding to the growing anticipation surrounding its release — especially with a star-studded cast led by none other than Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin.
The Story
No Other Choice centers on the emotional and psychological unraveling of a married couple, Man Soo and Mi Ri. After dedicating 25 years of his life to a paper company, Man Soo is suddenly laid off. Struggling with his pride and desperation, he becomes consumed with finding another job — but the competition is fierce, and he’s running out of options.
Meanwhile, Mi Ri steps up as the backbone of the family, trying to keep them afloat as her husband descends into an increasingly dark mindset. What follows is a haunting exploration of survival, moral dilemmas, and the lengths people will go to when they feel they’ve lost everything.
