Evening: Wife from the Future – Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara Unite in a Fantastical Romance Epic That Will Leave Audiences in Awe! In Theaters Starting July 10, 2025

“Do you know why sunsets are so comforting? Sometimes they’re bright and blissful, other times dark and sorrowful—but the sky always accepts them just the way they are.”

Jakarta, July 2, 2025 — Following his critically acclaimed blockbuster and seven Citra Awards this year, writer and director Yandy Laurens returns with his fourth feature film, Evening: Wife from the Future, premiering in theaters on July 10, 2025. Adapted from the popular web series of the same name, this film presents a fresh and heartfelt romantic fantasy, starring Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara in their latest on-screen pairing.

Produced by Suryana Paramita, Evening: Wife from the Future is the first independent feature film from Cerita Films. The film reimagines the love story between Jonathan (Dion Wiyoko) and Sore (Sheila Dara) in a more expansive and cinematic version, while still bringing nostalgic elements through beloved soundtracks and iconic scenes and dialogues. Both long-time fans and new audiences will be amazed by the film’s imaginative storyline, blending romance and fantasy across time and geography—from Jakarta to the icy landscapes of Croatia and Finland, with mesmerizing auroras, sunsets, and picturesque European countrysides.

The story follows a mysterious woman from the future named Sore, whose mission is to change her partner Jonathan’s self-destructive habits—before it’s too late. But as Sore reveals secrets from the future, unexpected events begin to unfold. Will her efforts to change Jonathan’s life succeed?“The reason I turned Evening: Wife from the Future into a feature film is deeply personal. When I first created the story in 2016 and released the web series in 2017, it was about meaning and acceptance in a relationship. But now, after going through many relationship dynamics and building a family, I’ve come to understand acceptance on a much deeper level. That personal growth inspired me to revisit and retell Sore’s story—with a new perspective on love and acceptance through the lens of a wife,” said Yandy Laurens, writer and director of Evening: Wife from the Future.

Yandy’s creative restlessness resonated with producer Suryana Paramita, who emphasized how both the creator and the audience have grown alongside the story.“Yandy’s experiences over the past 8 to 9 years—especially in his personal relationships—have brought new meaning to the story. Many fans of the original web series still appreciate it today. As the audience matures, so does the story. That’s why we’re bringing it back to the big screen—with fresh meaning for a growing audience,” said Suryana Paramita.

This film offers a story that resonates with many couples—about wanting positive change in a partner’s life. Viewers will witness the emotional journey of Sore striving to transform Jonathan’s life, while he, too, faces unresolved issues from his past.

Presented in Yandy Laurens’ signature heartfelt and nuanced storytelling, the film elevates the Indonesian romance drama genre with a refreshing and epic touch.

Both Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara, who have collaborated with Yandy in three previous projects, spoke about the creative challenges and growth they experienced through this film.“My first collaboration with Yandy was the original web series. From then on, each project with him brings a new kind of challenge. Being part of this film gave me the opportunity to deepen my character in a way that pushed me to grow as an actor,” said Dion Wiyoko.“Working with Dion, Mita, and Yandy has always been special. Dion and I are often cast as a couple, but each story brings a different phase of a relationship. The chemistry is there, but each time, the challenges are different,” added Sheila Dara.

For this role, Sheila underwent Croatian language training and committed to an intense fitness program to achieve the character’s physical demands. This transformation reflects not only her dedication as an actress but also how the film inspires its cast and audience to grow into better versions of themselves—even beyond the screen.

Produced by Cerita Films, the movie is supported by Melyana Tjahyadikarta, Queen Yeap, Slingshot Pictures, Imajinari, Miles Films, Studio Artemis, Jagartha, Trinity Entertainment Network, and Dwidaya Amadeo Gemintang as executive producers and collaborators. Official brand partners include Artotel Wanderlust, SukkhaCitta, and HMNS.
