Film SORE: Wife from the Future Premieres July 10, 2025 Featuring a Special Clip of Sheila Dara as Sore

Jakarta, April 21, 2025 — After releasing a first look at the two main characters of the romantic fantasy drama film written and directed by Yandy Laurens, today SORE: Wife from the Future officially announced its release date with a special clip featuring the character Sore, played by Sheila Dara. In this first-ever footage, Sheila Dara is seen as Sore, waking from sleep with a look of unease. SORE: Wife from the Future is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2025.

Following the blockbuster success of 1 Brother 7 Nieces earlier this year, Yandy Laurens and Cerita Films are now embarking on a new journey with SORE: Wife from the Future, which also marks Cerita Films’ first independently produced feature. Previously, the production company founded by Yandy Laurens and Suryana Paramita had co-produced with other studios, including the critically acclaimed Falling in Love Like in the Movies (2023), which won Best Picture at the 2024 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).

Produced by Suryana Paramita, SORE: Wife from the Future explores the love story of Jonathan and Sore, set in Croatia. Sore travels through time to meet Jonathan, her future husband—but instead finds herself caught in a web of emotional turmoil. In addition to Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara, the film also stars Croatian actors Goran Bogdan and Lara Nekić, both of whom starred in the Oscar-nominated short film The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (2024).

SORE: Wife from the Future was produced across three countries—Croatia, Indonesia, and Finland—over the span of nearly a year, due to the need to capture seasonal changes in two countries as part of the story,” said producer Suryana Paramita. “Originating from a web series released eight years ago, SORE: Wife from the Future now returns in feature film format with a deeper and more exploratory narrative.”

Director Yandy Laurens shared the personal inspiration behind revisiting the story:

“The Sore web series was originally a form of expression and a journey to understand how to love a partner. Joeanne, my girlfriend at the time, taught me so much about relationships. She didn’t just love me—she loved the relationship itself, our pre-marital bond. That’s how the script was initially written. Eight years later, after marrying Joeanne and raising two children together, I’ve truly come to understand what it means to love and be loved unconditionally—and just how powerful that feels. That’s what inspired me to tell Sore again, one more time. In that dark room, on that big screen, it feels just right for us to meet Sore again—and with her, a love that transcends time.”

Produced by Cerita Films, SORE: Wife from the Future also receives support from Melyana Tjahyadikarta, Queen Yeap, Slingshot Pictures, Imajinari, Studio Artemis, Jagartha, Trinity Entertainment Network, Dwidaya Amadeo Gemintang, and Miles Films as executive producers and collaborators.
