Jakarta, August 19, 2025 — Pangku, the directorial debut of renowned Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian, has been officially selected and will compete at the 2025 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The film is part of the prestigious Vision program, which curates the best innovative independent films from Korea and across Asia, offering a glimpse into the future of Asian cinema.
The Busan International Film Festival is the largest film festival in Asia and has long served as a platform for Asian and international filmmakers to showcase bold and fresh works. Pangku’s inclusion in BIFF’s official selection and the Vision competition is made even more special by the fact that 2025 marks the festival’s 30th edition, celebrating three decades of cinematic excellence.
The screening at BIFF 2025 will also serve as the world premiere of Pangku, marking a significant milestone in Reza Rahadian’s filmmaking journey, which this year also commemorates his 20th year in the film industry. The selection of Pangku by BIFF highlights Reza’s artistic vision—not only as one of Indonesia’s finest actors, but now also as a promising feature film director.“It’s an incredible honor, and with deep humility I thank BIFF 2025 for this opportunity,” said Reza Rahadian, director of Pangku.
“BIFF is not unfamiliar to me, as two films I acted in were previously screened at the festival. But this time, I return as a director. I hope this work resonates with the global film community, serves as a reflection for audiences, and connects with the struggles portrayed by the characters.”
Pangku is produced by Gambar Gerak, a production house founded by Reza Rahadian and Arya Ibrahim, with both serving as producers for the film alongside Gita Fara. The film stars Claresta Taufan, Christine Hakim, Fedi Nuril, Devano Danendra, and rising young actor Shakeel Fauzi.
Before its world premiere, Pangku has already made an impressive mark on the international film circuit. It received the White Light Post-Production Award at JAFF Future Project (JFP) 2024, was selected for the 23rd Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF23), and was among the five winning projects of the HAF Goes to Cannes Program, where it was later presented at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Additionally, Pangku was chosen to participate in Far East in Progress at Focus Asia 2025, held as part of the Far East Film Festival, and received post-production funding from the Red Sea Fund, supported by the Red Sea Film Foundation.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release in Indonesia later in 2025.
